First off, a history. This forum is paid for completely by the admins. It doesn't cost that much when it's split with a few people, and we have no intentions of making any money off the site. We all have jobs, and we're all happy with the money we make (all except maybe bol :D)

We have been approached more and more by companies wanting to sponsor the site. There is NO need financially for us to take sponsorship/advertising money, so I thought of a great idea. If we do go ahead and add advertisers and sponsors to the site, all the money that we receive from advertisers will be used towards the track days that we host. Meaning the price per person on a 24 car track day would drop from the current $200/entry. How much it drops depends on how generous the sponsors are :D.

Personally, I would like to keep the site banner free, but it's entirely up to the end users (you guys) to determine what we're going to do. This forum is for you guys, so please let me know what you think! Of course, if you're interested in advertising here, please leave some feedback as to what you guys think as well. We want something to work for everyone!

I have no problems with banners since I barely even notice them on any site any more, as long as it's not cluttered with like 10 in a row. It's the pop up's I hate. :thumbsdow

Yea, for sure there won't be any popups :D. I'm really against that.

If the potential to earn money is there why not take advantage of it, don't let it go to waste.

rage2
10-17-2002, 02:26 PM
The amount is quite insignificant once it's split up with several people (I don't expect to keep it all myself ya know :D), so I would prefer to use the money towards our members (ie track days, BBQ's, etc).

a banner up top, i wouldn't mind, it's a pain when there are popups though... it'd be kinda cool if the prices of track days could be a little... more down to earth =) heheh

Cheaper Track Day events?? Obviously there is going to be some kind of trade-off for site sponsorship... If it's banners, well, most of the peeps' sigs are banners anyways  so no problemo there. On top of creating a good relationship with certain sponsors/vendors, beyond.ca might also be able to get discounts or first-look/buy of new and upcoming products services. This will definitely be good news for the users for obvious reasons. Some good advertising space on the forum will prove to be beneficial for ALL parties involved, not to mention saving the admins some $$, like you high rollers NEED to save any :poosie: but I have to agree with the pop-up comment. So, uhh, have you been approached by any porn sites yet???
:poosie:

Go ahead and do it, but maybe direct the money towards meets instead of track days since not as many people show up to them?

Redlyne_mr2
10-17-2002, 02:50 PM
banners would be a great idea...especially if it allows us ot hold more events(though I have yet to attend one), I trust that the admins will only allow interesting and industry related companies advertise on here, better stay clear of the porn banners otherwise Leo won't have any funds left over for ghetto hookups modifications

Meets and BBQ's are cheap, track days are not. Just trying to find out where I can help out the most, that's all.

Go ahead with the ads. You could use the money to run some contests or something.

I agree, 24 cars limnits the amount of people who can take part, but meets, everyone is free to come to that.

Hey,

I would suggest that the money raised from the banners goto the track day events. Lowering the price would sure as help in getting more people out to the events. If the money went for the meets (BBQ, etc...) you would end up with a lot of free loaders.:thumbsdow

That has to do with insurance. Depending on what it covers and how many cars can be out at one time.

Cheaper track days would be great :D.
The coming season will be very busy as plans are already in the works for events.

This is a very good forum, w/ a very good rep...sometimes sponsering goes over board.... A little wouldn't hurt... Trackday cheaper would be good.... You guy's started this forum, and so far
it's very good, and everyone enjoys it.. You Admin's have made all the right choices about it so far, so my input is what ever the Admins say...:dunno: But no pop-ups......

Off topic... You can get Pop-up filters of Kazaa, for free, they work really good....

Yes, but you can most cirtainly not have 600+ cars on the track...

It should be put towards things all members can use, shirts, hoodies, BBQ's and Parties.

We can use the funds to both subsidize track day, as well as pay for any BBQ meets/cruises that we do next year. It can also be used to have food supplied at our track days so we can stay at the track over lunch. The possibilities are endless but personally I would hope that not all of the sponsorship money is put towards track day as not everyone from the forum attends our track days.

One question, we have 795 members now, what if the price was lowered (track days) and then 550 people wanted to come out and race cause the price was very good? That would make a problem. Maybe run some kind of contests or competitions and reward prises for that or something.

First off, I would like to thank you guys for this site. I mean this place has taught me alot. And once again thanks. to the admins, and members. this place is great.

and The banners, i have no problem with them. Like everyone else said. as long as they aint no pop up you can have banners up anywhere..well maybe not everywhere but as long as it doesn't intercept with my scroll bar :D .

once again. I can't say it enough. Thank you rage2 and co. for this free site. we couldn't ask for much more.

edit: the place that the banne rwould be great is where

If there's going to be banners, it'll be done where there's a lot of visibility. It won't be popups, but it'll be something that's fair to the paying advertisers.

Banners are fine, just no pop ups!

And I like the idea of using the money to help subsidize meets etc.

for the ideal of subsidized the track meets

how would it be decided who gets subsidized and who don't??? Like on a first come first serve basis???

We'll be subsidizing meets/bbq's by buying the food/supplies/etc. We're not paying people to come =).

Personally im in favor of the track day reductions, but skip the BBQ moneys and save it for beyond meet prizes. Basically keep the cheeseburger and throw me a dyno session! (with wideband O2 sugar on top)

I think its a decent idea, something to consider is how big the banner will be (size and dimensions). My main concern is if it will detract from the fast loading/fast response of this site (which is what I really like about this site).

O gonna be subsidizing for meets/bbqs now?
Oops I just realized I said "meet" instead of "track." Shut up, it was late ok!!! LOL I'mma gonna go change that.

then nevermind ... cause I was thinking of subsidizing track day where we would pay a lower fee and I was wondering if that were to happen who would get the discount.

Maybe try it out, and if it doesn't work out, then take them off.
I don't think people using the forums should mind it, because we all use them freely.

As far as BBQ's and racedays, I think the forum users should still contribute somewhat. I would feel guilty just showing up for a cruise/BBQ without contributing. I would hate for the admins here to wake up one day and feel like everyone was just taking advantage of their good will.

I agree totally, and would also like to say Thanks also to the admins of this site! Very Well done guys, Much Appreciated!
Keep the Add to a medium size so people with slow modems dont feel bogged down and I am more then sure no one would have a problem with it!
I also like the , Lower Track fee idea, And not just because I plan on attending next year
There are multiple track days through out the year, so if you dont get in on one meet, you can get first spots next time or something! Im sure we could all work something out !

as far as banners, i think it depends on what kind of banners, and like everyone else....no popups

I think it would be a great idea for sponsors, it would help out a few or if not all of us in the long run, and a minor distraction of a banner is nothing

szw
10-19-2002, 01:55 PM
I have no problem with the banner, but around how much can you make from this advertising? If you used it to cut costs on track days, once you spread out the money, it will only be a very small discount to only the people who can shell out for the track day. (Depending on how much money you make, I'm guessing about 500/year...but that number came out of my ass)

Are these sponsors going to be an internet company, or a local company? Perhaps monthly draws and prizes could be given out.

Or, instead of track days which are quite expensive, The money could be put towards "secret street tickets" which would allow for more tickets and more members to join in.

Stratus_Power

no prob w/ banner as long as there aint any pop up.. or banner liniked to porn site..

the money should go to stuff like making beyong stickers and stuff. and SS ticket is good.. since sorta the only the high rollers goes to track day :P

The average size of a banner is 8-20kb...on dialup that equates to just shy of a painstakingly slow 4 seconds...

What My fourm does is takes the money and raffels off car and audio parts to the members. that might be an option... Or buy window banners and sell them to the users for the cost of S&H.
I would but a side sticker or a window banner

As long as the ads aren't pop-up, and just at the top or something I wouldn't mind it. We all appreciate your guys supporting and maintaining the site, and if it'll help to cut down the cost of track days to a more reasonable level that would be a great benefit for all enthusiasts!
