View Full Version : SiR vs. Maxima

Im really stuck here.
I am looking at these two cars and have no clue what I should do.

Im looking at 99'+ maxima SE's and 99+ SiR's.

I like the honda because its small, theres a million parts and I can fix pretty much everything on it.
I like the Maxima because its something different, lots of room, luxury and power. I know the maxima is so much more refined, quieter, a more solid feel etc...
But the civic is more fun to drive is it not?
Ive been around maxima's since 92' my dad has always had them, but im REALLY confused lol

Any opinions????

Please lol

Ive got one of each im checking out this week.
thanks

I'm a bit biased because I am a Honda fan. If you're looking to do a lot of mods and pick and choose your parts, you can't go wrong with the SiR. They are definitely fun cars to drive and tune.

Now with the Maxima, you are starting off with a bigger, more powerful car. There are quite a few Nissan aftermarket parts out there, you may want to check this out before you make your decision.

Personally, I see the Maxima as a car that you modify and make it clean and classy. Not a lot of flash. The SiR would be something to go a bit wilder on.

Just my two cents

hmm id honestly pick neither and go for something that isnt outdone like crazy or something that isnt such a lumbering beast. check out a car like the mazda3 man.

Totally different cars. 4-doors to 2-doors, V6 t0 4-cyl. I'm assuming you are talking about an SiR with the B16A which is a nice little engine. I had one in my Del Sol and would zing it to its 8200 rpm redline all of the time and it ran like a top and there is a ton of aftermarket parts. No bottom end torque though. If you are looking for a more refined/comfortable ride with V6 torque, the Maxima would be a better choice. They should both be reliable and styling is subjective so take them for a spin as that's the only way you are going to know which car is going to better suit your needs/wants.;)

Maxima no QUESTION

Ya, I looked at the mazda 3, I didnt like the $7500 down and still have a $13K buyout after 4yrs

All im planning on doing to this car is rims, lower it and and intake lol
nothing wild or crazy.
I was going to do 18s on the civic and 19s on the maxima.
that was the extent of that.

Ive also had trouble at different dealerships with financing so thats why im looking more into cars that are a couple years old.
I just want something that ill still like in 2-5 yrs.
Saving for a downpayment on a house right now as well, so I dont want to be nailed down to huge monthly payments either.

go with the Maxima since your planned mods are just minor. But I'm not Biased at all.

THe maxima is a better car, however you are right about the modding, if that's the route you want to go, then pick up the SiR and have some fun.

Maxima dude! ;)

Seriously though...I can give you a good price and the money you will save between the maxima and the SIR you could lower and get 19's!

Wow a lot of people deciding between cars that are wildly different all of a sudden. All I can say is test drive them both and decide from that - unless you are looking for something specific. Like if you need the extra room for passengers and the extra power, Maxima is the hands-down clear choice, but if you looking for something smaller, more fun, fuel efficient, the SIR would win.

If its financing that is causing a problem, you might want to try a domestic, but whatever you buy, be prepared to own it for the full financing term because with most domestics you'll be upside down in your financing agreement until fairly late in the term.

I think im going to go with the SiR, unless Integz or Wild Kardde get back to me real soon.
I dont really need the space as much as I think I do, so it would make more sense to have a smaller more fuel efficient car.

Awww come on Scott. You know you want that V6 rumble. I used to love driving my parent's maxima, till I got the 240 :D. Im totally unbiased towards Nissan though... ;)

I used to be addicted to Nissans, my first car was supposed to be a 300zx convertible lol but I fucked that one up
then I owned the indestructible honda:rofl:
anyways, just doing a pro.con list right now.

Maxima uses premium fuel!!

However, it's suppose to be pretty good on gas from a lot of owners. If you can manage the costs of fuelling, the Maxima for sure :D

Go with the Maxima. Luxury and comfort is where it's at. You can make it look smooth and it will be a pimp ride. I had the whole debate when I was thinking out the kind of car I wanted but it was between a RSX and what I have now. And I figured I'm not going to be tearing up the roads and that I like to enjoy the luxuries that my car has to offer and the power to make it comfortable too. Go for the Maxima, that's where it's at!

I am in no way biased:D

Mines 17 years old and still going strong. Looking at buying a 96+ this summer. I've done quite a bit of research and am subscribed to some maxima forums. They are very good/reliable cars with class and a some sports appeal. One of the few remaining sports sedans. Although they are two very different cars, if you don't mind the greater fuel costs, the max would be a way better choice in my opinion. A classy clean ride will get more attention from a wider range of *viewers* than a civic. I guess it just depends what you need it for. $0.02:)

Don't get me wrong I love my Sir, and all, but the only regret I have was not Buying the TYPE R,... so if your getting the Sir, i'd strongly look at getting a TYPE R!!!!!!!

5.9 R/T
05-19-2004, 12:18 AM
I can't believe I'm going to say this but...

Get the SiR. You'll be thanking yourself 2-3 months from now when regular hits a dollar a liter. Besides the obvious power difference between the two they are actually pretty evenly matched for speed, I would say both would be able to pull low-mid 16's here from what I've seen. The SiR would be more trackable too. But if it wasn't for the gas prices I would probably recommend the Max.

JordanLotoski
05-19-2004, 12:20 AM
your right about the gar prices..but as for speed the maxima will rape the sir....i have had an sir now a maxima...i know mins an 04..my buddy has a 99 and it will kill an sir

I don't know about kill, I think it would be pretty close all things being equal for 99's and earlier, 00 and later it would be a different story. I've ran against both and they were close to the same spot up to 100 clicks or so.

aZnBlooD
05-19-2004, 01:38 AM
i personally would go with the maxima.

it all really depends on what your lookin for. im sure that fuel and insurance is gonna be a bitch with the maxima...but you also get A LOT more room, power, and luxery with it.

the civic is a very nice small and fuel effiecent car. not as much of basically anything when compared to the maxima...but also WAY cheaper in the long run.

so its basically what you pay for is what you get.

The 2000 and 2001 are the exact same model (3.0L 222HP) and didn't come with HID or those fugly Jewel taillights. The HID's came out in 2002 when they stepped up the engine size (and price of course).

The 2000/2001's will be comparable in price with the SIR. If you get the SE (manual) then it'll be just as much fun as the civic, and quite a bit faster. But it'll be somewhat more of a family car. Plus with the 2000/2001, you'll save gas because of the 0.5 difference in displacement.... I say go for a year 2000 SE model.
