I was getting a pic of my friend landing a fish while wading in the bow river but I slipped and my camera went under with me. It does not work now. Does anyone know how water breaks digital cameras and if its a cheap or expensive fix or just a write off? Thanks

most electronics need a few days to dry out. But if you tried it before it dried out, or if it was on when you put it in the water, you may have created a short that fried something. It could be anything. I would bet that you would have to take it apart to find out. What I would be worried about is the CCD sensor... I am sure it doesn't take well to water.

What kind of camera is it? If it is a Canon, take it into the service centre that we have right here in Calgary.

I just got the call from Alberta camera repair for when I went in the water accidentally (drunk as hell) . "It is un-economically repairable" said the receptionist. They charge $12.78 if you chose to not get it fixed. They waved that charge as my camera is about as usefull to me as a sewn shut vag.............. well you know!!
Time for a new camera I guess.

try calling one both of these to see which one it is. I have not been there myself, just told that we have one in Calgary.
