i have a 52 chevy that i am restoring and ive been thinking about what engine to put in it...i was thinking a chevy 400 well its obviously gunna be a chevy engine but what do you guys think other wise...its gunna be somethin i actually drive to not jus for show...ill probably race it some too....thanks for yer imput

400s arent bad... you can usually find them for pretty cheap, and built right they'll make plenty of power.

realistically any chevy SB is good, kind of depends on what you want it to do.

if you've got money and balls you could always get a big block, but a 350 or 400 is usually your best bet.

well ive got the balls id love a big block but the money part is the issue....dont have the money...for that or the gas that it will consume....thanks for your input

4-0-6!!! I love mine. You build it right you can get great torque and hp and still get decent mileage. How mild are you planning on going for the car? if its just going to be a quick cruiser mostly just for normal driving then maybe just go with a 350 that's mildly built up so you can still run reg. gas and get decent mileage. But a 400 isn't that much more too build if you want a bit more power.
Whatever you do put for an engine don't forget about transmission and rearend. You might have alot of power but if you can't get it to the ground effeciently then its useless!

a 400 (if bored .030 = 406) and a 700r4 Trans and 3.73 Posi you'll have a nice cruiser and a quick car.
