Anyone work with fiberglass? I was under the impression all you have to do is make a cast of the part you want, then you can make fiberglass replicas of it. The carbon fiber hoods you get are just that, with carbon fiber sheets layered into the top of it?
Anyways is that the general idea? And if so, why does it cost so much for them? Would a skilled person (maybe someone in the city who does lots of similar work, not particularly hoods though) be able to make a replica or would it be very hard (costly)?
I mean people fiberglass things all the time, I would think the hardest part would be learning how to lay the carbon fiber smoothly without visible seams.
Anyone know more?
