I need a car this fall for college, I've always been partial to 2 door hatchbacks and I've loved GTI's ever since my dad had his way back when. I've decided to get a rather new one, if I can find it, 97-03 and hopefully try to get the 1.8t with 180 hp

After I purchase this I want to know what mods are really worth it, the best bang for your buck, since I am not made out of cash for these kinds of mods.

I guess what I'm asking is what are the best mods I can get relatively cheap that will enhance my GTI. Rear anti-sway bar? New ECU? New air filter/exhaust/intake?

Thank you for your time

Can't go wrong with an upsolute chip for the 1.8T engine - big gains from it.

the upsolute chip in there? does it work on the vr6 also?

what else would be worth it, say i only have 4k to spend what would be the best places to put it

for the suspension a set a springs and a rear sway bar will greatly enhance the handling of your ride. especially if you have some stickey tires  try eibach and H&R, they make the best shit

intake does nothing on a 1.8t except add blow-off sound.

for a 1.8t, get chip/exhaust/springs/swaybar/wheels and you'll have a ballin car

Thanks, and the I want to give it a deep rumbling sound with the exhaust so any recommendations will be sweet, I'm looking forward to owning one in the next 2 months and hope to break it in before I get these mods.

Yeh, I'm going to save all this since I'm going to wait a bit before doing these mods, probably end of fall semester during winter break or something. Looking at a 97 VR6 now, and a 2002 1.8t. I'll need to find the car I want though.

Okay! I've almost purchased a 2000 GTI VR6- so what chips do you guys recommend, I can't seem to find any but I know they are out there. Also, about putting a turbo on it, what good sites are there out there to help me out with these kinds of mods. Thanks

well not as much as a 1.8t because there isn't any boost to crank. on a VR6 a chip removes the rev and top speed limiter, changes fuel maps a bit and is said to be about 8-12hp. best bet is to get some cams and get a chip written for the cams.
