Wow, the scene at Olympic Plaza today was amazing. I watched it on TV and when they showed the over view of the park, it was absolutely incredible to see the amounts of people that came out to cheer on the awesome season the flames have had. Good job to whoever went down there or cheered from home like we did.

  for flames fans!!!

I watched some of it on TV....seems like everybody there was getting pissed because it was going on for SO long. They started chanting at one time "we want the flames" ahahah. It took like 50mins for the players to come out after showing like 2 vids and a bunch of other stuff haha

I'm sure a lot of people are going to be late for class/work today!
hahaha but its all for a good cause....
to show support for the Flames!

I was planning on heading down there at 11am this morning but after my game last night, I didnt have the energy to drive and stand there. haha good job to everyone that made it out though
I did manage to make myself wake up at 12:30 to watch the rally on TSN.
Wow it looked amazing!! I WISH I went!

Ville Jr. looked so cute, haha he was decked out in ALL Flames stuff, that was cool!
Glad to hear that Conroy wants to play in Calgary, well I hope his agent and the Calgary org. can work out a deal that'll keep him here for another couple years at least
Same goes with Kipper and the rest of the Flames.

oh nice!
i thought he only had a 1 year 800,000/yr contract
i think him and Turek need to switch contracts. haha
at least give kip a big bonus, he definitly deserved it more than anybody.

i tried looking on the net but couldnt find any info on unrestricted/restricted free agents at the end of the season

does anyone know the complete list of people who MIGHT NOT BE back in the next season of the NHL?

i jsut got back from it, it was pretty coool. at first we thought we got jacked for good spots but we waited by the old city hall and thats where the players came out of. so we saw the players but couldnt see the screen.

it was pretty crazy down there

Conroy is unrestricted. I think he's about $2MM a year. I think Oliwa, Simon, Lowry and someone else are also unrestricted. Jarome is a restricted but he's not going anywhere.

The rally was a HUGE waste of time. Its was packed shoulder to shoulder... and half of the people there couldnt see shit because of the trees.

The worst part was people that still thought that they could get somewhere just by saying "excuse me" and then would realize they couldnt get anywhere so they would just stand their and breath down my neck.

A big fuck you to the guy who stood beside me with a greasy DQ bag pressed up agains my shirt the entire time.

Well, I was there... but no pictures of the actual players.

Got tired of people pushing past me trying to get in the middle when no one was coming out. I don't know why people think they are more important than others and continue to push into the crowd.

One lady said: "Excuse me, I am clausterphobic" as she pushed her way INTO the crowd.

I thought the rally was pretty good, we got there 12:00ish and were able to stand on a ledge over looking the entire plaza, nice to get out there and show our support for the flames once again!

It sucks about the stupid people, but don't forget, that rally was for the Flames. People may not have been able to see much, but the Flames could see them and that's what was important in my opinion. I had no real chances to get any good pics from where I was standing, but I was there for the team, not so I could see them up close.

Tampa's cup rally today drew an estimated 10,000 people. Any estimates on how many showed up for the Flames?? I've heard numbers up to 30,000. The team made us proud, and I think Calgary made the team proud today, so IMO it wasn't a waste of time.

I think that they should either prune the trees or cut them down! hahhahahaha

I just got back from the rally as well, I was very late, I think I showed up at around 12:45pm and as I was walking down Stephen Ave. tons of people were walking the opposite direction. At first I was thinking damn it's over, but a lot of people must have left because they couldn't see anything. When I got there it was still packed like crazy I have no idea what they did for the first 30 mins of the rally, but lucky for me when I got there the players were just being introduced (I thought I had missed all the good stuff). I could barely see anything but I really feel sorry for the people that were less then 6 feet tall, at least I could see the big screen! Didn't matter anyways, it was definitely not a waste of time IMO, we were there to support the Flames and cheer them on, you don't need to see anything to be able to do that. I just heard what the guys said, chanted with the crowd and put a comment on the Flames banner, the whole thing was just a way for the fans to thank the Flames, not too sure why any Flames fan would need to see them to do that.

I was at the ralley! Got down there just before 11 to ensure a decent spot. I got a ton of photos, but sure wish I had a nice zoom lens (70-200  )I'll get the photos up tonight, got photos of most of the players etc.

Nice pic! I noticed people standing on the tops of buildings all over the place, the best view was probably from the top of the JAck Singer.

I was thinking I should go down early...

Saw a dude with a 100-400mm... that is what I needed from where I was standing.

I got off the C-Train at City Hall and settled about 20 ppl back from the orange gates at Old City Hall. As it went on, it must have reached a point where it was another 20 ppl deep behind me. So many ppl were just standing on the C-Train platform too.

Olympic Plaza was definitely not large enough to have held this but where else could they have done it? Anyways, reading the other comments, it looks like I should've been on Stephen Ave... I didn't realize there was even a big screen. :dunno: Oh well, I got to see the players coming out of and going back into Old City Hall. Imo, the rally was for the Flames and their fans. Also, it was cool to see Beesley, Rob Kerr, and Rob Maher running the show. It was pretty funny to hear the weak applause they gave Bronconnier after the cheering for the players.

Don't think there is any reason to complain. The flames appreciated all the support, I mean seriously where else would that many people show up to cheer for a team that didn't even win the cup? The people of Calgary have alot to be proud of

They said on the radio it started officially at 12:30 so everyone would have time to get there on their lunch break, but they were advertising 12 to make sure a good crowd was there.

Stupid me went at 12:30 anyway - you couldn't even see the big screen lol. But it was fine to hear the players announced and make some noise for them. I'll watch the footage on the news at 11 or something.

I think the saddledome would have been a great place for this...people could stand down on the floor or go sit up in the seats...why not, it's the flames' home :dunno:

we were late at the rally so we waited at a bus, hoping it was going to be the flames' tour bus, luckly it was, so we saw them all loading onto the bus it was pretty cool

Ben and I were dead center about 10 feet back from the front. Perfect spot for taking pics, cept for the bitch who kept waving her flags blocking everyone's view. And what great luck I have with my camera running out of juice right when Beesley was about to introduce the flames.
