Why not a 1G GSX or TSi??...Why does everyone have to go with the 1G's are a better car...(arguably)...Plus a LOT more common to come across...

I agree with Cyclone, 1g DSM's are SICK!! I wanted to get one so bad, but I knew that if I got it I would be tempted to make it fast. Not quite sure how to explain to the parents why I have to rebuild my engine every years ;)

Stealth/3kgt's are a good choice, not sure if you could afford one with your budget.

Impreza RS is a fine car too, so much fun in the lower end :burnout: The upper end is very lacking though, the only thing I dislike about my Sooby.

There's another thread close to this one where someone bought a 97 AWD 2.2L Impreza for $3.2k. If you could find a similar deal, lets say $4k for a 2.2L Impreza. A guy I know in Saskatchewan got a version 6 sti motor and tranny for $6k cdn (JDM, delivered)

That was at cost though, so say you put $8k cdn into the version 6 sti motor. Puts you at a total of $12k so far. Then you gotta get the thing installed, everything supposedly bolts right in (except for the wiring harness which is a bitch)
So if you DIY, you have $5k left for tuning, more than enough to put your car to 400whp. If you pay a place to install it, that should put you right on budget.

The thought of a version 6 sti in Calgary is just

The Vr-4's will be the Mistu 300GT...AWD and 4 Wheel Steering

with the Stealth's the Trim level will be R/T

17K is a bit short for a decent Mitsu. Chances are you'll need to fix any of the these - turbo, transmission, differential.

A scooby RS will be a better choice. First, no turbo to worry about. Subaru build quality is light years ahead of Mitsu. And the AWD is good if not better than anything old Mitsu has to offer.

Here's one:

R/T TT IIRC, one trim level below the R/T TT was the R/T with the DOHC N/T V6 222HP FWD and all the options of the R/T TT except the AWD. Below the R/T was the ES with the SOHC V6 and few options.

I wouldn't go that far. N/A Subaru's are reliable but Subaru's overall reliability is only industry average. WRX's come with a very very weak 5-speed transmission that can barely handle stock horsepower. Cylinder #3 fails frequently also as the turbo exhaust piping passes around #3 causing it to run hotter than the other three cylinders. Alot of the DSM unreliability comes from people modding them and that fact that DSM's are everywhere (especially in the U.S.) where from 1990 to 99 they were amongst the top selling cars in their segment so you are going to hear more about them.

That's why I said RS and not WRX.

Turbo never ages well.

I dont really know about other AWD DSM owners...but I have never had any major issues with my AWD system under really hard use...i.e. HARD drag launches and AWD drifting...

Only sheer supidity on my part caused my one issue which was easily resolved so...

Stage 2 cobb (around $3-4k) will let you keep up with a stock WRX, but who leaves their WRX's stock?

Turbo is the same argument, you can rape a stock WRX with like 6 psi, but after that it is extremely costly to safely add further boost.

A swap is the most expensive option to get the same results, but you are also paying for potential. That is why this is the option I'm gonna go for after much thought.

However, if you're satisfied with the speed of a stock WRX, and dont want to sacrifice your torque, then the first 2 options are your best bet.

Stealth/3000gt's are very expensive cars to maintain/operate. Just an FYI. Not the most reliable cars, and a pain to work on. Still great cars, and I will buy another 3000gt/Stealth some day.

they TT awd's are 300hp pre 1994, great cars! I still miss mine.

Actually if you do a google search some gu about 4 years ago put an Entire BNR32 Manual into PDF format wich is in english, on the internet, if you do a google search for the Skyline forums, then do another search for the manual in the forums im sure you can find it. the only problem is with those cars is getting some decently priced parts,

I used to have to manual on my old Computer, but have since then, reformated and changed platforms...

The R32 although Highly overpriced for its year is a good buy in terms of performance and Tune Ability, you can easilly get those pupies running a Reliable 600WHP, for the right amount of money of course..
