Hey guys,

Here's a dandy for you.
My Futuremark'03 Score before overclocking: 5945

My Futuremark'03 Score After overclocking: 5644

Hardware:
AMD XP2500+ (Non-mobile)
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe
1GB RAM, Synced at same speed as system bus (Dual Channel, 7-3-3, CL 2.5)
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (No bios mods, no overclocking, Cat 4.5)
Windows Xp SP2 RC2

Overclocking Changes
Processor: XP 2500+, mulitiplier from 11-->10.5, FSB from 166Mhz--->185Mhz. (1833hz ---> 2035 Mhz)
Ram: Timings from 7-3-3 ---> 11-3-3

Now my question is why would my futuremark'03 score drop so much? Does RAM timing, and multiplier have that big of an effect, even though my overall processor speed, and system bus speed has increased?

No idea. When I OC my card I get lower scores too(?). I dunno about those RAM speeds though man lol....I run 5-2-2 up to about 182 MHz FSB with no problems

This is your problem...

Ram: Timings from 7-3-3 ---> 11-3-3

That 11 is whats killing you...if you lower your timings it will run faster and vice versa. In this case your slowing your computer down quite a lot...You should hit over 6 if you leave it at 7.

Also whats the speed rating of your ram? If its 3200, then you can run your system fine at 200MHz (thats what its rated at). With some good 3200 you could hit up to 220MHz fsb.

I have some 512 2700 OCZ ram and got it to 224Mhz.

In 3D Mark 01 I hit 19,8XX...

Just recently at regular settings i got 5466 in 03. I will probably re-bench it later...

AMD 2500+ Mobile
DFI Lanparty 2 Mobo
OCZ 512 2700 EL
Micron 512 3200
Sapphire 9800 Pro

the ram is rated at 3200, I can run it fine at 200Mhz, but then it's not synced with my bus, I've read that it's more important to have synced RAM with your BUS, than to just run them independently, how true this is, I'm just testing now. I come close to 6 on my benches when I leave it all at 166, and 7-3-3. But I didn't think that ram timings would that large of an effect, considering my overall bus is running that much faster. Guess I'll have to go get some Crucial PC4000 ram =D

Just figured someone might have an answer as to why memory timings would have such a huge impact on my scores.

I can run my ram Speeds faster but then XP starts to get really flaky on me, best I can get is 6-3-2 at 180Mhz. but even then I can't top 6k on futuremark'03. Still trying to get over that heap...with either increasing memory timings or increasing my system bus.

I also just tried OC'ing my vid card, and guess what, my scores drop again, LoL. On top of that I get a lot of distortion on the pixels. Maybe it's time to try some driver remixing.....
