Hey guys,

I have a 1998 honda civic SI and it has 120,000km on it and it still hasn't had the timing belt replaced.

Does anybody know of any mechanics that do this and do a decent job on it??

What kind of price should I expect to pay to have it done??

Is this a job that only the Honda dealerships should perform or are they overpriced as usual??

Thanks guys
James

When I have to get mine done, its going to the Honda dealer. You can call around for prices, but for something as important as a timing belt I'd get it done by a dealership. Especially since your car is a 98 and not a POS beater you don't care about.

Remember- You get what you pay for.

I was quoted $250 installed for a timing belt on my car, and from what I've seen thats a pretty good price for an Accord.

which honda dealer was that price quoted from??

I called Crowhchild HOnda today and the guy wouldn't even give me a price. Then he said "we also make you change the water pump at the same time as the timing belt, cause everytime we change a belt, 3 months later we have to change the pump, so we only do them together". So I don't wanna go there.

You should do you water pump too though.

I was quoted from Honda West (pre-rennovations), Calgary Honda and High River Honda.

Its not time for me to get my belt done, but when I do- lets just say it won't be High River Honda. The people from that dealership that I dealt with are the most backwards idiots I have ever come across in the automotive field! :banghead:

I would try calling a few other Honda dealers, then maybe look in the yellow pages for Honda specialists. I think there's a few around, they might be worth looking into aswell.

Good Luck

go to T&T talk to brett or bill mann . it should be 4 hours labour and about $90 for the belt and you should do the water pump while your at it.

You could buy a manual and do it yourself, That's what I did..

It ends up to be $250 at any dealership no matter where you go especially at T&T unless they know you.

For your civic PACMAN i do it for $175 including timing belt and that's for an oem honda part not a after market piece.

175 plus labour or what?

I'd be intersted in this ls/vtec-crx.

Does that price include the labour?
Does that price include replacing the idle bearing?
Do I even need to replace the idle bearing?

Forgive the newbie questions. I was a 5.0 mustang owner for 8 years and have never had to change the belts before as the mustangs used chains.

Thanks
Pacman

you really want a good job for a decent price? Dealer's are going to rip you off cause, WHY? cause they can, that's what they are there for. I know people who do side jobs for decent pricing, for sure lower then Honda dealerships.
