I wonder what kinds of complaints were logged??

"How come my 2.5 TS, isnt as fast as my neighbours STi??"

you think they log the smallest complaints right up to the large ones??...or do they have some sort of flitering process??

Doesn't surprise me about the Impreza - my buddy used to be a diehard fan of Imprezas until he sold his 90-somthing impreza and replaced it with a 2002 or 2003 model. In the first week the scuby badge fell off, various electrical components on the car failed and the overall build quality was unimpressive. He has since sold it and bought a 2003 Passat and has never looked back.

owning an older model impreza myself i'm not surprised either. most of the problems i had happened during the first two years of owning the car... mostly minor mechanical/electrical issues. wheel bearings were replaced 4 times, sunroof motor replaced twice, drivers side glass replaced twice along with the motor assembley, passenger side glass replaced once and a bunch of other stuff.. all this was fixed under warranty.

i also know of people that own the same year/make of impreza as mine and they haven't had a single problem after 4 years.. maybe i just got a bad one

The I35 is based on the last generation of Maxima.

The database is the most messed up POS I've ever seen. On the "lemon list" page, click the link at the end of the paragraph above the list. That should open a new page for the US DOT website. On the first page, choose vehicle, then put in the year make and model of your car on the following pages and read through the complaints for your car. What makes this a mess is some of the complaints are listed several times and some things are listed that people complained about but could not be duplicated or even qualified. (If you want to see a good example, put in 2003, Chrysler, PT Cruiser, check the box).

In essence the list is poorly managed so who knows really which cars should be on that list and which ones shouldn't. Its one thing to show a list of "problem" cars, but if they are to make a list like this, they need to manage the data properly or the list is BS.

i thought Suby's only disadvantage is parts expensive. i never realize they've that much problem. i thought they were realiable manufacture

what about the newer model. are they still that unrealiable?

I think to get on the lemon list, the cars got to have problems AND dealers/manufacturers won't deal with them or reluctant to.

I bet 26,000 complaints where on the stupid dealership and parts people!:banghead:

I dunno but there are plenty of suby owners who could tell you one way or the other. My friend who used to have the Impreza feels that the newer models have gone down in build quality though, not up.

This "Lemon guide" (http://www.lemonaidcars.com)gave 97-02 Impreza's an "ABOVE AVERAGE", on the other hand the 01-02 PT Cruisers received an "AVERAGE" score.

That's a different list and I actually know the guy who wrote the book that inspired that site (lemon-aid for car buyers - good book).

With all of these lists though, its based on opinion, so if you look hard enough, you'll find one that has an opinion you agree with. ;)

Here's the opinion I like  Strategic Visions Total Quality award (for a domestic no less  )

PS - it won over the Impreza 3 years in a row (2001-2003).

I thought the lemon list was different because it was based on US DOT information, but after looking how the information was collected and stored, this list is no more helpful than any other.

I'm really surprised that Subbies would be up there on that list.

You'd think Nissans would be.

It's not just the cars that are bad as such
It's the kind of people that buy some of those cars. Most of them probably just feel like bitching. I'm surprised there aren't any buicks on there. Buicks are the notorious seniors car, and everyone knows how much old people like to bitch.
