What is the correct procedure for down shifting?

Say , at what speed, what RPM, double clutch or not...

Cause it seems to me that 8 out of 10 times when I down shift, the car and the engine doesn't seems to like it?

btw, i drive a 04 WRX, or is it the transmission problem?

need to revmatch for smooth downshifts

"Rev matching", always match your revs on a downshift.

On a down shift you blip the throttle while re-engaging the clutch in the lower gear, that way you don't get that braking effect when you let out the clutch.

do you guys means you have match the rpm before you release the clutch with the rmp before you step on the clutch?

Are you talking about how "loud" the engine sounds and lurches when you downshift?

For instance :

If you are in 3rd gear crusing and you need to slow down for a corner, ingage the clutch so you are in a neutral stage, then give the throttle a quick blip as you shift into second and release the clutch. You will not get this the first few times, but keep practicing then you can move onto heel toeing.

You just bought the car recently right? Sounds like you are releasing the clutch to fast and causing the car to lurch.

It took me a awhile to get used to the WRX, shifting is much different than other imports I have owned.

can anyone explain what double clutching is? Is it one of these?

1. In fifth, clutch in and let out at neutral, rev the rpm and clutch to fourth.

2. My friend told me that he has a friend that fixed this 280 or something for up hill racing in B.C. He said that the thing revs up so fast that he double clutchs to shift (He shift so fast that it's like double clutching.)

3. Same friend told me this. Its when you are driving and the rpms aren't high enough (like driving fifth gear at about 40km) you would keep the foot on the gas and quickly clutch in and out twice to bring the revs up.

I read 1. from a magazine and 2. and 3. was told to me by my friend.

See what happens when people watch the FnF ??

Unless the car your driving has very bad syncros,or it's an old car with no syncros, there is no real need to double-clutch.

If you really want to know how to double-clutch , go ask a trucker.

BTW don't drive at 40km in fifth . It's hard on the engine.
