I'm looking at a set, but one thing that is important to me is that the tire squeals when it reachs its limits. Do these guys squeal and let you know when you're approaching the limit?

Anything particularly BAD about these tires?

If you want squeal at the limit, and progressiveness at the limit, you can not beat the 712's. Great beginner tire to learn how to drive hard.

To answer your question, no they do not squeal at all.

Grip is great at first but after just several thousand K's of driving they don't grip nearly as good as they are when they are brand new. The Kumho 712's wear alot more evenly and as rage2 said provide lots of warning (screeching) as you approach the limit.

The ES100's squeal characteristics are the same as the 712, only thing bad is the wear and loss of grip you have when they are new.

Alright, that settles it then! 712s were my next choice and they're cheaper too.

Thanks guys.

I got the Avs ES100 a month ago. I absolutely love them! Yes they hardly squeal. The stiffer sidewall is more stable. I had FM901 before and boy...do they SQUEAL. very predictable at limit and great grip!(ES100 is even better) The price for FM901 is comparable to the 712's but wears much faster! The 712 is great bang for your buck.

the avs es100 and kumho 712 tires are fairly comparable. i found the avs es100 better for grip all around. i have heard they lose a bit of grip when they wear, i can't comment on this since i only put a few hundred km's on the avs es100's i had. both these tires are relatively low cost with high tread life so grip won't be anything amazing. i run these tires because they are drivetrain friendly.

imo the dunlop fm901's aren't even comparable to the two tires listed above. the tread compound is much softer, harder sidewalls, low tread life. this is a much better performance tire. probably comparable to the falken azenis.

I liked my Kumho 712's especially in wet driving on derfoot where it's easy to hydroplane. As mentioned, lots of squeel for good warning, haha

I used FM901's for a day and they were far superior, but they are also quite a bit more money.

I just picked these up for my RX-7..
Drove around 50KM's so far and seem to be really liking them.
Taken some really hard corners and still havent squealed..
Major improvment over my previous tires.

I have the AVS ES100s on right now and I luv them. Quite noticable difference from the 712 I had on prior (3 weeks ago). They are more grippy, and along the corners they hold better. The last comment might be a lil biased since I was running 195 on the Kuhmos and 205 on the Yoko.

I dunno about squealing though b/c my exhaust is too loud.... :dunno: I just ease off the gas when I go more sideways then forwards.....

u guys i dont mean squealy in general (no tire squeals when u arent driving it hard haha), i mean squealing at the limits of traction. the thing i hate about my current tires is that they are quiet when im sliding everywhere.

FM901's are junk compared to 712's. You must have been smoking some serious crack when you owned your Dunlops. LOL.

If you want the ultimate summer tire for dry handling without going to an R-compound, there is nothing better then the G-Force KD's.
