What do you guys think of them? There are so many models of the Hakkapeliitta that I'm not too sure which one to go with for my Civic.

How about Bridgestone Blizzaks WS50??!!! I love these tires, they are so amazing on snow, grip so well......but when there is no snow, they suck:thumbsdow

Hakkapeliitta's are the best winter tires that you can buy I think.

Aren't these just like Michelin Arctic Alpines(sp?), but sold under Crappy Tire?

Hakkapeliitta 1's w/ STUDS. Best winter tire u can get. The Q's are non-studded. U can't go wrong w/ studs.

:D I agree wholeheartedly. I've got a set of studded hakka 1s and I wouldn't go with anything else. Fantastic tire for all conditions and grip like crazy, although the studs are hella noisy. They wear like iron too.

Actually, they are completely legal in alberta, and there are no restrictions on when or how they can be used (seasonal restrictions, etc).

Thats why you buy Blizzaks, studless! (even says on the tire)

Mere tread compound can never compare to the grip offered by 120 stainless steel studs per tire :D

And I forgot, you have AWD too!

But man, I am still amazed on how well the car grips in this crazy weather, my traction control is constantly lighting up!

I'm sad cause my car has to go in for repairs at the bodyshop tomorrow and I won't be able to drive it, I miss the car because of the blizzaks!

I hope they don't give me something so underpowered where I can't even drive up a hill

So I've narrowed my choices:

1. Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50
2. Michelin Artic Alpine

Think gonna go with Michelin (stock size 185/60/14). Seems like it's a bit cheaper so might as well save a few $.

Think gonna get 14x6 wheels too. What are some good places to get wheels for cheap? I'm in Edmonton.

Hey Seks,

Have you thought about the Hankook W400's? Price is good, cheaper than Blizzak or Alpines. I have a set for my CRX/Civic and they're really good. As for wheels, I had to get it at Canadian Tire in Edmonton cuz all of Calgary was sold out.

Seks, forget the snow tires for the Civic and slap on some snows for the S.

You're not a real S owner till you drive with the top down in the rain and drift around corners in the winter

I finally got tractions out of my tires. I guess a good set of winter tire does make a difference (use to run summer tire on a rear wheel car in winter), but I suppose speed also played a major role.
Finally, calgary with snow doesn't suck as much as before now :)

The W400s rock and they're now on sale!!

BTW, any ever notice they always feature Audi A4s drifting through the snow (full control of course) in winter tire commercials? :D :D :D

You fellas know how these compare to other tires in terms of tire wear, ice grip and snow?

Nokian are the top winter tyre manufacturers now when Gislaved (the previous no.1, by a very slim margain) are gone. If I was to buy winter tyres, I would no doubt buy nokian. And if it was legal (which it is where I live) I would definitely get studded tyres. The grip when it's icy is not comparable, and it might well save your life.

AWD is pretty pointless in the winter unless you're racing or going in places where you risk getting stuck. Won't help one bit when you need to stop, and not help when cornering either (unless you're trying to race when cornering - though I doubt any of you would put the car sideways..hahah)

Oh right, forgot to mention: Every year the asian produced tyres always rate the worst of the bunch. That goes for summer and winter tyres. One test said the tyres had great warm tarmac grip for a winter tyre but sucked at everything else. haha... and the same for the summer tyres - they were suprisingly grippy (as good as the worst winter tyres) in the winter but shitty as hell for summer tyre usage.

Sorry for the third post: but I don't mean ALL asian brands. Just most mainstream cheap ones.
