I think he was installing new Valve Springs to match his Camshaft...

Does it run? :poosie:

Oh yea, I was getting valve float after 5100rpm. The Springs were rated at 134lbs closed, but only measured 105lbs closed when tested.

I ordered new valvesprings and a guy from Perf. Shop came over to install them.

To remove the valvespring, the valve must remain closed while pressure is applied to the spring, which slides through the center of the spring.
There are 2 ways of keeping the valve closed while separating the spring from the valve:
1. Apply air pressure into a cylinder through the spark plug hole to hold the valve closed.
2. Stuff the cylinder full of non-compressing nylon rope, and turn the crank so the piston moves up and pushes the rope against the valve.

We tried both these methods, but the keepers on the top of the valve stems were seated way too well, and wouldn't allow the spring to separate from the valve.

That's why the heads had to be pulled, to be able to hold the valve in place while it's separated from the spring and keeper.

I'm having the heads given a stage I port job while they're out as well. :poosie:

On the dyno, I the engine was about 27whp shy of what I should have been making, due to the valve float past 5100rpm.

Having stiffer valve springs and the port job done should give me near 300whp, and high 12's on slicks.

Another thing is that the gaskets between the upper and lower intake manifold, as well as the head gaskets were seriously over lapping into the flow of air through the ports. This would have stolen some power too, so the new gaskets that will be going in will be port matched to allow maximum flow.

A guy named Steve..........
He's experienced and gave me the flow numbers on his ported heads (11.3 second NA 347ci mustang). I was impressed.

Stage I is more of a clean up, rather then a lot of material removal. The port matched gaskets should help out too.

I'll see if you'll line up with me in your STi when you get it. An AWD drive launch will OwN me though.

I have it already... got to break it in before we do any "lining up!"

I think on a cooler day near the last days of secret street... I'll get some race gas and just leave the IC sprayer on all the way down the track... hehe

no problem. I'm picking up the upper intake gasket and head gaskets from the Mustang Shop tommorow.

Great, everything went well?

I went by my Dad's shop today and cleaned the block where the heads mount, as well as the mounting surfaces on the headers.
I drained the oil and will pick up 4L of non-synthetic tommorow.

There's some nasty welding on the inside of the headers where they connect to their flange. I'll have to take a dremel to them sometime to smooth them out.

Yea it all went very well.
