View Full Version : How much money in fuel will I use?

Lennon

I am going to be driving from Calgary to Toronto come August 1st, with my 1986 300ZX. Its a 3.0L V6. I've flushed the fuel system clean, oil changed, air filter is changed as well.

How much money do you think that I will be spending on fuel alone? (So I can start saving now to give me an idea of what I'll be needing)

Thanks guys.

How many km's per tank do you get on highway drving?

That.Guy.S30
07-03-2004, 03:03 PM
how many litres is your tank? and how many kms can you get from one tank?

Phuqu

What's your fuel mileage like?

Just figure how much km you get on a tank.

Divide that by 3400km you will be driving. That will tell you how many tanks you will use. Find out how much it costs to fill your tank.

All you really need is your average gas mileage and some simple math.

^^ It si different for highway drving though...

Its around 3000km right?

And I am guessing your 300 will get about 500 to a tank.

So you'd fill about 6 times approximately, maybe 7.

And i'll also assume you are paying about $40 to fill.

Therefore, 7*40=$280

Another question... I used MApquest to get the distance... only its wrong as I don't want to be going through the states to get there.... I need to do this:

Leave point:

3327 43rd st. SW
Calgary, Alberta
T3E 3P3

(Uncles house)

Arrive at this point:

255 Kribs st.
Cambridge Ont.
N3C 3A5

(Parents house)

IS there a way of finding out the distance of those, and direction, on mapquest without the going through the states part?

Wow. I didn't know that. ;)

I didn't want to make it more complicated than it already is getting.

And as for the distance going through Canada I think it's a few hours more. So maybe consider another 1/2 tank or so.

If you are able to go through the US I would go that way. It's quicker and gas is a little cheaper.

assume that 1/4th of your driving will be done in city and changing to a speed thats less than highway driving and less miles to the tank

so it might cost a smidge bit more

just cause driving through toronto will be a hassle and theres some idle time, and if you go through cities. plus if you over guess a bit, you'll have some extra gas money incase you need some for the highway portion

have fun man, semi cross canada trip

I'll allow for about $600 then.... sound enough?

FiveFreshFish

That's probably enough. You should also budget for one or two nights in a motel.

If you're going to sleep in your car, you can hit a gym, work out, and then shower. Maybe you can find a shower at a truck stop too.

I wouldn't cut through the U.S. because that means you have to cross the border twice. The shorter distance going through the U.S. could be defeated by the time you spend waiting to cross the border, not to mention the hassles you might get.

Lennon

Good point.. I wasn't gonna hit through the border anyways.. I just didn't want to risk the hassle.

I'll be driving red-eye.. no motels or anything. Just go straight through.. nap at a Husky station.. you can shower there for like a dollar or something.

I said I didn't want to go through the states.... remember?

My sister just made the trip, and she said going though Canada bites compared to the states. Ontario is all 90km/hr with nothing but single lanes full of RVs. Speed limit is 80 mph in a lot of places in the states.

You have a point Khyron... but I just don't want the hassle of going over the border... thinking worse case scenario.. getting everything ripped outa my car.. searched. having to put it all back in myself.... I love Canada too much. ;)

double your number and add another $50 just in case, since you're coming back right??

hjr
07-04-2004, 04:11 PM
you also have to remember that gas out east can be upwards of a $1.00/L, so you dont go as far for your money.
