I just did the free mods to my 93 tsi talon and am amazed at the results, i hacked the aircan to hell, removed the silencer and the small honeycomb resrtictor on the intake. Now throttle response is way better and the turbo is so much lowder and you can hear the BOV quite well now!

And now i get my Downpipe and custom cat back tomorrow!

Heres the link to how to do the free mods for anyone who hasn't:

That air can looks DONE
I think im the ONLY one in all of dsm land that just tossed the aircan and attached the filter to the MAS with a few screws. Not that my way is any better but it sure was faster.

Id actually put the lower honeycomb back untill you have an AFC and problems with fuel cut, there is no benifit to removing it untill youre cursed with fuel cut. Then being able to flow that unmetered air will be PRICELESS.

I would like to do that but i need to see if (and how bad) of boost creep i willexperience, then will have to get a new manifold and port some crap, as well as get guages. So thats where the money and time goes for now. I'll see what she runs at secret street on friday!

bump for a dead thread

I've got a K&N on my birthday list, so hopefully I'll get to do this mod soon...

Couple questions though...
Have you noticed any of the problems (ie detonation) people have discussed due to sucking in hot underhood air?

Is there advantage/disadvantages to removing the airbox instead of cutting it a la: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/wayback/BradBauer/engine/K&NMod.html ?

I cut about half of mine away...to expose the front of it, but still trying to leave the back half shielded from engine heat...I really dont think it makes that much of a difference though at our power levels at least...

But now...Cyclone has a nice lil scoop...so we shall see what transpires...
