I was just wondering how hard it is to drop a GSR engine in a CRX?

its not supposed to be easy, the engine will sit higher, your better to get a 5th gen civic, any b series will not bolt directly into a crx without mount kit, axles, shift linkage, wiring harness, tranny, etc. its almost as hard as stuffing the b18c5 in there

How good are you at wiring?! Wiring a car from OBD-0 to OBD-1/2 is a bitch. Well, maybe for me cuz I hate looking at wires.:nut:

http://www.angelfire.com/ca/DrOhm/hybrid.html

Read that and see if it gives you a headache, and it's only SOHC VTEC which is a bolt-in swap.

So I should just do a b16a swap then?

if you want all motor go b16, if you have plans to turbo then do b18, personally I wouldnt pay more than 3500 for the swap, you can get the pieces at yoko

I want a crx too! Im trying to work out a deal for a 90 crx, with crapped out motor, I would also go the same route as crxguy and do a turbo d16, but preferably from the 92-95 Si/Ex or newer...crx's just look so much better...or do they:

mini-me conversions would yield some good times, if done right. It's pretty simple anyways.

hrmmm...ok one more question...would it be possible to do a b18c5 swap into a 78' civic?? or even a b16a?? i dunno...the 78 is a 4 speed manual, and it is so light that with a b18c5 i think it would fly! :dunno:

Can you say "no traction" though?:D

A stock B20 has more torque at idle than a B16 does at it's peak. Imagine what a modifed B20 would do to your poor tires!!

Is there a website for yoko?

eur0
10-28-2002, 11:29 PM
nope, for the crvtec just use some 13's and throw drag tires on! that setup costs mega $$$$

b18c5 is a shitty engine for swappnig anyway.. the costs are unreal,,,

van

So what kind of a swap should I go for then?

a hard swap that would pay off in the long run is a b18b swap...cuz its a good engine to run boost on.

if ure a fan of all motor revving fun..then go for the b16a, or better yet a b16b (thats FUN)

van

Whats the diff between b16a and 16b?

ls/vtec-crx
10-29-2002, 12:29 PM
don't go with the zc it's a waste of time and money. trust me i know i've went through it already. best thing to do is to save your money and go with a b16a. i charge $4000 installed for everything (motor, tranny, ecu, motor mounts, axles, and shift linkage and that's installed.)

it's not hard to put any b series motor in this car i don't know what these other guys are talking about. a gsr motor (b18c1) will cost i would say around $4-5000, and a type r (b18c5)motor i can get for $6-7000.

B16A is a regular SIR motor. (160hp)
B16B is a Civic Type R motor. (185hp) i think!

I agree with ls/vtec-crx, don't do a zc swap, it sucks, the only reason i did it was cuz i needed it right away and it was cheep. Do the b16! Its worth the money, i would but im selling my car!

The civic type r motor would cost around $5000 that's just for motor, tranny, ecu, axles, and shift linkage. You can't use the tranny from this motor cause it is hydrualic and your car is cable. but you can sell the tranny for 1500 and buy a cable one for 500. but if you wanted the limited slip from the civic type r motor i can swap the L.S.D. out of it and put it in the cable tranny but then you can only sell it for $800-1000.

If i were to do it i would usually take the car in on Friday night and you would get back either saturday night around 10pm or sunday evening. Doesn't take that long at all.
