I'm trying to ship a money order to Hong Kong. The money order is worth quite a bit, over a grand, so I would like to ship it with insurance, in order to ensure that it is not lost while in transit. But Canada Post said that I cannot insure a letter. How should I send it, will other couriers let me insure it. Any input is appreciated.

i think you can insure express post or fedex letters.

You can't insure a letter as far as I know. If you are concerned about it being lost why not send a wire transfer instead?

the teller is full of shit or trying to ruin your day.

wire xfers cost around $25.

"money orders" are around $5-10, but now u also have the extra expense and hassle of worrying about it getting lost.

Yes wire transfers are not that expensive if you look at all the costs associated with each.

You could send a registered letter. That runs about $10 I think. Still doesn't insure it but they have to show ID and sign for it.

send it in a parcel, insure it that way.

That is not possible. If you put this in a parcel and then ask for $1000 insurance on it you will have to declare what is inside it. If you declare it is a $1000 money order then they will not insure it. If you declare it is something else worth $1000 and it is opened by customs then they will see you lied.
