At least looking at it doesn't hurt my eyes like most other Kia's. I still can't get past the badging though...even if it's not completely ugly I still know it's a Kia. I agree with Benyl that the fender flares look a little iffy, I also love how it looks like it just got punched in the face with that piece of tape there...lol

design is actually pretty damn cool but its still a kia (i have a friend whos mom works for kia and says that like 1/3 of their vehicles off the truck need to be sent back for repairs)

The old ones were the biggest pieces of garbage on the road. Can't speak for the new ones

The new sportage shares nothing in common with the old sportage. It is a vehicle engineered by kia and hyundai. The hyundai tuscon(sp?) is a sister vehicle to this one.

403gemini, By 2007 almost all kia/hyundai vehicles will be crossed between lineups. they already share the magentis/sonata, 2005spectra/2006elantra, and the sportage/tuscon. It will become tough to hate kia and love hyundai.

As far as sending back one third of the new vehicles for fixing, this is false. I am a kia mechanic and i had to fix more new Mazda's than i do Kia's.:dunno:

The majority of our work comes from the old sportage and rios. The rio is a 13000 dollar car though and you get what you pay for.

The sorento is a very nice suv and has produced very few mechanical problems thus far.

The new lineup seems to be pretty high in quality. It will be interesting to see how these vehicles turn out for them in the future.

All that being said, I don't own a Kia and I probably won't unless they get over their copycat tendancies with their styling department. It seems like almost every new model looks like something else.

the sportage looks like a small ugly version of the Xterra.

I have a 2000 Sportage lifted on 31 inch MT/R's that actually has been off roaded frequently and hard (Maple Ridge B.C. but just moved to Calgary) for the past 2 years as well as daily driven. I Have NEVER had to do anything except fluid changes and 1 tune-up in the 85000 kms I have put on it. People greatly underestimate the abilities of these little trucks... If you do a little research on them, you will see that outside N. America there is quite a large and serious following of the Spotage as a specific offroad vehicle. Hell, Darren Skilton one the class 3 division in the Baja 1000 three times in a row beating out much more "well known" brands....

Agreed actually been in one and it was for sure on the scary end of things in terms of solidness and road feel.
