How are the older Toyota 4x4 pickups off-road. I am looking for something somewhat good in the winter and fun to drive. i have driven 2wd pickups in the winter so i know that won't be a problem. Just wondering if there is anything to avoid or look for when looking at them. When did they go fuel injection? How do the carb ones do in the winter? Anyone have one for sale for reasonably cheap? Must be a short box and 4x4.

they rust.

other than that, they're god damn bullet proof. they obviously lack in the power department, but they still get the job done, even offroad.

they are awsome!
some info for u
79-85 solid front axle
85 first year of feul injection
carbed 22r's have about 80hp ! 22re's have about 110hp (u can do mods to a 22r to get pwer thow, larger carb ,20r head, cam exhaust , super charger , turbo..........)
the main issue with older yota's is the frame they rust out at the rear spring perch just before the frame bends upward, and the body mounts athe back of the cab and the floor boards .
the enigine will last forever u can't kill them! and the drive train is stout enuff to hold up to a 350SB chevy

the best yota in my opinion is a 1985 ext cab = feul injection and a solid front axle

u can find the older ones for cheap if ur willing do some work to it .

i don't have pic's , besides it looks really ugly right now its nothing special with the saggy front leafs and the rusty box.
once i paint it w/white hippo liner it will look better
