Just got my new Blizzaks installed for the Winter. Man, do these things STICK!!
You definitely know where the money went on these!
To those who are deciding on Winter tires... don't be shy to lay some coin for Blizzaks. After all, safety first, you know!

Dude... I guess Californians wouldn't know what we are talking about... :D
Blizzaks are like the pimpest Winter Tires you can get! They are made of a high Silica-Sand compound, so it really grips to snow/ice... and just about anything. The drawback is the super-soft compound wears out QUICKLY in hot, dry weather.

I initially called Blaskin & Lane, and they were charging $132/tire for 205/60-15.
$150/tire if you want them installed and balanced.

I got mine used (95% tread left) for $340/all four.
I hope to get a coupla years outta them, since I'll only be using them in the Winter. It's those damn Chinook days that'll wear the tires out!

I hope to get two winters out of mine and I'll be happy......I think I'll try to reduce my driving as much as possible on those chinook days!

If you get the LM series Blizzaks you wouldn't have to worry about burning them off when dry.

Damn...$340 for all 4..

I paid about $300/tire....$1200!! for my Blizzak MZ-01's. They were pretty much the only set of winter tires I could find in 245/45/17. That and the Dunlops which were $435/tire.

For that much money wouldnt it be cheaper to get some smaller rims, and throw blizzaks on those? I mean 300$ a tire is fucking rediculous.. id rather drive with my balled toyo's in the winter than pay that.

Sorry, tried that. Smaller rims won't clear the freakishly large calipers on the stealth. Very difficult car to find rims for.

Summer tires are also almost as expensive it that size...

It's pretty much like Big_Six_Boy said, except that they aren't very good at snow either.

As everyone knows, winter tyres have a rubber compound that doesn't freeze and harden up after the temperature drops below 4C unlike summer tyres. This of course gives them the edge in anything done in the cold. But there's also a big difference between winter tyres. Blizzaks have rather surprising grip on ice (it's a very poor grip of course - only studs can give any real grip on ice) compared to other non studded winter tyres.

But as for their snow capabilities, reviews and comparisions show that they have not very good snow grip and poor tarmac grip.

If you really want some kickass winter tyres that are good at everything (however, not as good as blizzaks on ice, but far better on tarmac, snow, slush) then I highly recommend Gislaved (a now discontinued brand) and Nokian. Scandinavian hardcore winter tyres that always end up being the leader in the many tyre comparision tests done here.

HERE HERE! Just add some studs to the Nokian Hakka 1's and that nasty ice problem is solved period. NO if ands or buts. Studless are for wimps.

no offence but studs are way overkill for daily city driving......

When ur sliding around in those uncleared residential areas or back roads in and around the city, then u'll see that the studs are worth it.

Plus, i hear it makes some pretty cool sparks when ur driving hard on pavement   I haven't seen it, mostly cause I was making the sparks. heheheh.

One can never get too much grip. Saying otherwise is like saying that people don't need safer vehicles. Of course we need safer vehicles. We can always use such things.

Studs may be over kill if you live and drive on bus routes and main streets 24/7. But for us who live on streets where it snows and stays icy for 2 weeks + studs are worth it. Have you ever tried to drive up a hill in a rwd car with no weight in the back?

When I still had the Benz I had purchased a set of LM Blizzacks. If memory serves... I think the total bill ran approx. $1200.00. Again.. paid about $300.00/tire, but well worth the price.

Sweet Ass tires... :burnout:

You got ripped off big time if that didn't include steel rims.

The Blizzak LM 22s are close to 170/tire.

unless you have some crazy tire size on the benz.

Aren't STUDS on tires illegal now?
I remember they passed this law a while ago where it's now illegal to have studs, chains, etc. on tires? Can anyone else confirm this?
(Alberta law... you can still have studs/chains in BC I believe)

Does dry pavement effect the tread life more or is it warm weather?

In the day its rather warm out but at night when its dry, at least there is frost on the roads

drox

I believe its the dry pavement, because these are very soft tires. But like someone else said there is a LM series that wont wear off in dry pavement.
