First Car... what to buy?

Hey, I'm looking into what I want to buy for my first car. I want to get a car as fast as possible, but not a V8 (wont be able to afford gas) and not over $3000. Preferably something with at least a decent amount of aftermarket parts available and definitely able to run the 1/4 in 16 or under stock. I don't have very much experience with cars and I know most of you do, so I was just wondering your opinion.

if you guys did not notice it, ITS $3000USD must be worth like $30 683 085 205 782 here in canada :D

anyways, you'll need to save up a bit more if you want those numbers
