Well, as soon as you find this Front wheel drive 5L, it'll cost around $2-3,000.. Plus the price of the motor, = too much..

BTW: i'm no expert but i think it's mearly impossible to put a 5L RWD V8 in a CRX... Try buying a Miata for the V8 swap... that'll work :D

put a 350 ,, forget the front wheel drive ..

tub out the center , make it rear wheel drive .. coil over rear suspension,, bigger springs in the front .. and get ready for your motor to stick out of the hood a good foot ..

can be done ..

seen it ..

alot of welding and fabbing ..

rear end 1000..
engine and tranny 1800.00
rear suspension 500.00
200 hours of custom fabe work...3000..

can be done

how much u want it

it can be done, but will it work? That motor would twist that CRX like a twizzler upon launch... That IF you can get all the rear drivetrain aligned, and working properly. Then there's your tubbed out center. Is driver/ passenger seating thought of here? pedal placement? gearshifter placement? will tubbing out the center make the body weak?

There's those questions and ALOT more. If you have and answer for all, and the money.. Do it. I'll give you 2 thumbs up as soon as your done..

the chances of this being a reliable street car , are slim ..

but to answer questions ..
you would go with and auto tranny.. and of course there would be lots of fabbing to strngethen the car ..

also getting tractoin is very unlikely..would be fun though..
the driveshaft would only be like a foot long .. probly have balancing problems..

it be fun to build .. ill help

if you just wanna build it ,, just get a 350 with turbo 350 tranny in good running cond for like 500 bucks .. get it in there and driving before u drop in the big gun

hey guys, judging from your comments I guess you never saw the 1st gen crx with the stock honda motor in the front, and the big block blown 600 cubic inch motor in the back, the car had 2 gas pedals, and 2 shifters. the car was completely streetable and got 30mpg, then he started up the motor in the rear and wheelied all he wanted, the total cost including labor was about what you pay to have a type R engine put in a crx.

there was also another crx without the engine in the front.. he put a v8 in the back, it was a crate engine.. then he built a 3 inch firewall with a shitload of insulation. he also had to realign everything, the entire drive train was swapped..he extended the body like 6 inches.. in the end it looked really weird, ive never seen so many braces and shit to keep the body and chassis straight..

if you look in this months "grass roots motorsports" a 1986 crx was converted to RWD with a 350 cid sbc (small block chevy) for $2004.00 for the 2004 grassroots motorsports challenge.

you *could* do it, i just wouldn't recomend it.

SBC is nice and all, but it'd probly be much easier to swap in a 3800 Series 2 supercharged from a bonnieville or GTP.. much smaller, boosted, and its a fwd block (240HP, 280ft/tq easily increased :))

it would never bee in line with the hubs on the crx.. u would have to mount the engine with it hanging out past the front bumper lol

the DOHC heads make that engine quite a bit larger than the 3800, plus the automatic 4T80 transmission weighs a tonne. Its a tight fit in a fiero, let alone a CRX

the pushrod 3800 is much more compact. it has a smaller transmission that is 90% as strong, and has an aftermarket (shift kits, LSD, gears, etc). You can push northstar HP levels (275-300hp) with a simple pulley swap, and chip.

Talk to the guys at AutoTemp by Blackfoot trail. They've got a honda with a 350 in it converted to RWD.

If you find a 91 cobra send it my way, must be worth a million dollars since they never made a new style mustang cobra until 93.
