The bars at most gyms for olympic plates are 45 lbs. I have no idea what kind of bar you'd be talking about at 15...
tricep / ez curl bars are usually 12-15.

The bicep and tricep bars can be anywhere from 8 to 15lbs.
The bench press bar wieghs 45lbs (thats the standard weight). Thats what they use in olympics and stuff like that. I am not too sure if its the same in all the other gyms though. I highly doubt that they weigh that much, cauz i never felt like i am lifting 45lbs whenever i lift just the bar.:dunno:

yeah, i never thought it would weigh 45, I guess the bench bar need to be heavy for a reason or else it would be tipping every time you stuck a weight just on one side :D

put enough weight on one side and it'll still tip ;)
but seriously, i don't think a 15lbs bar could support heavy weights.
i think my old starter set bench bar was only 15 - 20lbs with a maximum 25lbs plate.

The best way to tell is what kind of ends it has on it.

The most common bars that hold the "olympic" style 45lb plates, found at nearly every gym, ARE 45lbs.

I weighed some "25 lb." plates at my gym the other day. One was 28lbs and the other was 24lbs. This got me thinking about how acurately they build this equipment.
