View Full Version : Typical Days at work: The Saga

Ben

Well, I'm bored as hell right now, so I thought I would see how everyone else spends thier time.

Most of the day, I send and recieve calls to persons who have expressed interest in ADSL and other Telephony Equipment.

In reality, I browse the net, talk to my great coworkers, and take pretty generous breaks. I love my job. I do what is expected, get my job done, and have fun while doing it.

Anyways, I'm off in 10 min, so I'll talk to all you fine people when I get home!

Cheers!

My typical day at work used to involve driving 250km both ways and masturbating in the washroom!

I sit in front of a computer for 9 hours and, as my girlfriend put it: "draw squiggly lines" :) Actually I use AutoCAD and specialized software tools to develop steel frameworks for buildings, access platforms and pipe supports and design site grading and access roads for well sites and gas plants. I actually enjoy my job a great deal though I bitch about it a lot sometimes. I can wander off for a break whenever I'm getting stressed, and as long as I get my work done on time no one really bothers me. Maybe not something I want to do the rest of my life but certainly something thats good for now :D

If you want high $$/hr rates go contract for awhile...

Making $1/minute is great.... while it lasts.

Contract work is overrated! No dental plans, No health plans, no group insurance rates, no stock options... yadda yadda yadda

I should look for some more routine employment, anyone hiring someone that doesn't know much but is great for doing grunt work? Low pay is tolerable (~$12/hr).

I need $ to finish school. Thanks!

None really...I'll quote a scene from one of my favorite movies.

BOB1- y'see, what were doing to here is were just, just trying to get a feel for how people spend thier day at work. so If you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you...

PETER- Yeah!

Well, I typicly ome in about 15 minutes late, I use the side door, that way Lumburgh cant see me, and uh, after that I just sorta space out for about an hour.

BOB2- Uh wha...Space out?!

PETER- Yeah, I actually stare at my desk, but it looks like 'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'de say in a given week, I probaby only do about 15 minutes of real actual work.

BOB1- And Peter, would you be a good sport, and indulge us in a little more?

PETER- Oh yeah! Let me tell you something about TPS Reports...

One plus is job security as long as the contract is met!

Other than that... :(

See, I kinda lucked out, I am on a 2 year contract and yet I will enjoy all of these while going to school, and after 2 years, they will pay my entire tuition and have another position for me guarenteed. I guess it was worth the 14 months it took me to get hired...

wow that's a sweet job.... but in the end, a job is a job. Even when its something u really like, unless you keep it fresh and exciting, it will get old and boring... Luckily I keep myself fresh with a fresh brew of coffee each morning.. ah the excitment :D

I'm attending SAIT in the fall, I definatly dont plan on doing this job for ever, but its hard to find a decent job that pays well, while you go to school, and 3-4k a month PT is definatly reasonable. Too bad pretty much every dime I make pays off my debts and tuition and "Other things"

Usual day:

Turn on computer, bank statement reconciliations, various super-duper-exciting accounting crap (insurance, depreciation, leases, AFE's, equalizations, reports, reports, reports) with web surfing, talking to secretaries, taking long dumps on company time, talk on the phone, ride the elevators up and down, eating, doing cartwheels in the halls, turn off the computer, leave work. Repeat day after day.
Oh what fun.

My Day consists of surfing the net, yapping on ICQ and MSN, and checking my e-mail every 5 minutes.

Occasionally I'll have to help a client with computer problems... but that happens very rarely... :D

Lets face it. It doesn't matter what you do for a job. They all suck. The reason is 'cause you are forced to do it - to pay for all the fun in life. As part of my job I get to crash cars. Sounds cool huh? It was for a year or so. If work was fun, they would call it fun. But no, its called work.

Thats why I'm in engineering, and only a part-time porn star.

hey benny - sweet avatar. Was it live or Memorex? My best was 191 in a 90. luckily, no court appearance 'cause it was in B.C. , before they changed the rules.

my days now consist of going to work whenever i want, and pushing a lawnmower (self-propelled) around a big 6 acre set of condo's. i also move hoses and turn sprinklers on. soon there will be a ride on lawnmower for me to use, so my job will be more slack. not bad for $10 an hour, fresh out of high school. oh and i have another job painting full time for the summer, $8 an hour and at least 50 hours a week. i want to save for a nice car, but i am not sure what i want. i want to be different but it has to be nice. no civics, wrx's, etc. etc. i want a super pimp ride!
