Does anyone actually use them?

Yes, especially when it's -10. Basically helps your engine when you first start it. The block heater keeps the oil warm, thus causing less stress on the engine during it's startup.

I don't have heated seats or heated mirrors but I have a remote starter so my car is usually nice and cozy by the time I get in:tongue:

Heated mirrors are useless, unless you park outside. I think I've used them twice alltogether between my last 3 cars. And yes- I love my remote start!

I don't normally plug my car in until its like -25 or so. I've got 1000 CCA battery and I've never had any trouble getting the car started, even at -35 without it plugged in. It wasn't fun getting it going when it was that cold, but it was possible.

I plug mine in at -10 or colder also. Any turbo vehicle I've had is really grumpy in the morning unless you plug it in....

If you plug it in for too long and in not very cold weather you can actually promote engine corrosion. You should only have it plugged in for a couple hours before leaving.

Get one of those electricity timers for this purpose.

haha oh man....

It shuts off the electricity after the time specified that you set. Sorta like a timer that stops the flow of electricity after a certain period of time.
