Are there any advantages/disadvantages to this?

pros:

-more space in engine bay
helps take a chunk of weight from the front left of the car and

-distributes it to the back right (balancing with driver).

cons:
-I think you have to have a vehicle kill-switch to run at race-city.
-Longer wiring

Advantages; gets me my 50/50 weight distribution, since I was pretty close to begin with.

Disadvantages; Race city screws you over and want the world for you to race secret street ie: Need a master battery disconnect swtich (4 pot), to disconnect the battery and allternator. Which means you have to run both the positive wire to the back as well as the alternator positive wire. Also race city wants the disco switch visable say under the lip of your bumper NOT UNDERNEATH. Which then means you need to make a custom release bracket to drop the switch for when you race and to raise to be hidden when driving on the street. All this crap plus the wire also costs $$$.

But I had no choice my IC took up the space. Could of got a slim battery instead.

Best advantage to having a battery in the backseat is that it's much easier to boost when your battery dies.

This weight distribution crap is weird. If you're that anal about it, then i guess it's some big deal. Personally, my school bag weighs more than my battery, and i'm not going to stop taking my bag around because of the weight distribution. Am I totally off?

its not worth the hassle on a big car like a lude. its more of a mod for smaller cars, like civic hatchbacks..

So is that the main reason people relocate their batteries? Any other upsides/downsides?

The main reason, at least amongst normal people (not ricers, god only knows why they would want their battery relocated) is for weight distribution.

When I called race city they did not confim this to me either way. But thats no biggie, most cars have a vent in the trunk so you dont really need to drill a hole in the trunk for the vent tube.

Don't forget longer life because the battery isn't being heat cycled all the time. Less heat = longer battery life.

M3 = OEM battery in trunk = 50/50 from factory = on rails :barf:

why is it that they dont fuck w/ me.

You could always opt out for a gell type battery

You'll also need a Baterry box that is NHRA.

Like 4wheeldrift mentioned it's pretty much for weight distribution. I'll be doing that too sometime.

Bateries that vent or not need air. They both have the potential to explode.

Hydrogen has the same effect. And the gas is a by-product of the charging process.
