2000 Caviler z24 2.4L Mods

Hey Anyone out there know how to remove the speed limiter
out of a 2000 cavy Z24 2.4L???? SOB tops out at 170kmh and shuts down!! Would be nice to be able to hit the speedo's bottom!

only way that i know to get around that is to chip it..

Chipping will usually only adjust air fuel mixure and spark timing. The speed limiter as i've found out is actually a sensor located on the tranny. You can disconnect it or put it on a switch, however once you disable the sensor it knocks out your spedometer, but leaves your tach operational.
This trick is only recommended to be used with manual transmissions only, automatics require it to know when to shift.
Gonna have some people of mine look into a better solution....Anyone else have any suggestions on moding 2.4L without cleaning out you bank account?? :dunno:

Yeah, I know how, but tell me one thing. Is this cause you are hitting 170km/h before you go through the traps on the strip, as in legal racing, or are you trying to go as fast as you can on public roads. Because if it's just so you can do "ricer" flybys past granma and grampa in their RV on the highway, not a chance. Streetracing sucks, and you'll end up killing someone.

;) Dude, I've got a family, the only way I'm goin that fast is on a track with about 50 odd people ready to pull my sorry ass out of a heap of burning metal if I happen to clutch it and hit the wall. No I do drive this car daily, and there is a private strip of road that some of us tune on, nothing illeagal. What's happening is that I'm topping out at 170 at the trap and the car shuts down. It's a bit embarrasing to say the least, but no biggie.
Street racing is for ego maniacs looking to get put into a pine box. this car is fast enough as is to pass some of the idiot drivers on the road these days safely, and at a passing lane. there's driving fast, then there's driving stupid. those Driving Stupid need not reply.

There is no way in hell that your 2.4 is trapping at 170 km/hr.

Oh a sensor in the tranny, well where do you think that sensor is connected to? The computer. Unfortunatly you cant just "chip" your computer youhave to have it reflashed and it will remove the top speed limiter.

But if you want mods than search for "mods" there the same on all cars within reason. I/H/E and throw a GM supercharger on for good measure.

actually my friends sunfire GT 2.4 l is governed at 170 km too and sunfires and cavaliers are pretty much the same

Are you serious? He's not hittig his speed limiter on the track! And I'm sure his 150hp Cavy can do more then 170kmh, heck my '87 Corsica hit the speed limiter at 195 and could have gone a bit more with its 125hp.

It's that I would like to see, I wouldn't doubt most j-bods could reach 200+ without a limiter.

A GM S/C would solve most of your speed problems;)

my buddies 2000 Cavi doesnt kick in (speed limiter) but i mean i have never seen it go over 175 either, plus his is auto, dunno if that makes a difference in cavis or not

Well thats definately one way to avoid the limiter...dont go fast.
