Should I a hood visor or 3M tape to protect my car from rock chips? Is 3M tape a one-time application? Where can I buy this stuff from and how much would it cost? Thanks.

The yellowing is bound to happen (I think) over time, but it also really depends on the color of your car...lighter (white etc) is very noticeable and blacks etc. are not as much.

I recently got the 3M on my CL-S at Shadow Tinting. Got the hood, mirrors and side fenders. Brought in two cars (15% off) and it came out to $135 GST inc. per car.

It will turn yellow in 5-7 years but when it does just get it redone again no biggie.

i dont know about the 3m personally i would side with the hood deflector or bra as the 3m does get chips in it and as said will yellow :drama:

really?
3M helps but doesn't prevent chips on my friends wrx there is a massive dent and there was 3M hood thingy and all it did was like bent in the 3M too. but it musta been a hell of a rock

the 3M tape doesnt prevent dents it prevents chips. Both my parents cars have had the tape for like 2 years now and there are no chips or yellowing

The only drawback with the 3M stuff is the edge can collect wax and crap so you have to be more meticulous when detailing your car. This affects dark colors more.

With proper care, it looks pretty good. Btw, the newer 3M stuff is a lot thinner than what they used 5 or 6 years ago.

When they 3m a car do they do the front valance as well or just the front hood and fender areas?

the can do whatever you want to pay them to do. my moms car has the hood fenders and the roofline right above the windshield done. a valence would be more costly because its harder to do though, but im sure someone could do it.

I got the 3m installed on our 350z and 4runner and it hasn't yellowed or chipped. (dealer said they don't yellow anymore...) I was also informed that possibly as soon as next year you may have the option of getting 3m placed on your windshield. This thicker layer is aimed at preventing windshield damage due to rocks and such... I'll believe that when i see it.

I had the mirrors done too since they are just as prone to rock chips.

If you're really anal, you can apply this stuff to the area under your door handles to prevent fingernail scratches! :D

Both of the Shadow Tinting Mini's are completley wrapped in 3m.
