I'm thinking about buying a Jetta and was wondering if any of you have or know someone how has had problems with the VR6?? Also is this the best out of the Jetta's to get? I'm looking to keep under the $17,000 price range. what are your opinions?

Thanks.

I think jetta GLX Vr6 is the top of line that you can get. pretty sick car, not too sure about the different problems on each year but I would say with any VW to get it with warrenty cause it will help save alot of money. :)

VR6 is a pretty trouble free motor man.

As long as maintenance has been kept up to date, you should be ok :)

Window clips (prob fixed on yours) and some sensor problems are all you should expect to deal with for the most part. A few of us in the city have the factory diagnostic program for our laptops - join a vw club if you buy one.

Depends what model year you are comparing .....

1.8T may feel faster .. but I love the VR6 way way more ! a really good engine ! smooth, and sweet !

Well do you want to mod the engine? If so the 1.8T is much more cheaper to mod than the VR6. I myself like the VR6 because of the sweet ass exhaust note, but the 1.8T is a GREAT engine and it's been basically bulletproof. Things to look out for, check the coilpacks because i've heard of them causing a few problems (failing because the distributer gave VW a bad shipment of coilpacks), window regulators really like to fail on these cars, and dont be surprised if you hear the odd squeak or rattle. So either way- VR6 or 1.8T they are both excellent motors that will last a long time.

Haha, yeah... those squeaks. I got a 2000 1.8T Passat a few months ago. Everything's going well, but there's this squeaking noise coming from what seems to be behind the middle a/c vents.

to tell ya the truth i dont think the VR6 is that fast, i drove a VR6 GTI (2000) and it wasnt that fast but very nice exhaust sound and fun to drive, i havent drivin the 1.8t but if your looking for power i would say the VR6 doesnt have much IMO :dunno:

I just bought a 2004 1.8T and I love it, I test drove a VR6 and I still think that the 1.8T is the way to go. Either way both cars are great!!

Fast is a realative term.

both the 1.8T and VR6 should run high 15's stock in the 1/4 with a decent driver.

So the 1.8T is a turbo (figured as much) then the TDI is the diesel but is it turbo aswell?

TDI stands for turbo diesel. I have a 200hp 24V VR6 and I really like it. The 2001 has a 176hp (I think) 12V. Good solid engine, that should last a long time. :)
