MSRP is about 28,300 on the Acura (with freight) vs. about 23,300 for the Civic.

Which would you guys get? The car is for my mom and needs to have ABS, so I wouldn't consider anything without.

Any other cars in the price range that you think are better?

Has to be no more than about 28k, has to have two doors, has to be a manual transmission and has to have ABS.

I don't care about leather, sunroof or anything fancy.

Thanks

Yeah.. my mom hates four door cars. The Mazda 3 is a great idea though.. maybe we should look at that.

I'm also looking at the Mini Cooper I think.. 28,300 MSRP for the right config (sport plus suspension, park distance control and sport package)

If it was for my mom, I would get a Mini Cooper...if not..RSX......civic ?..eeer

Rsx doesn't seem like a very motherly car, but it's better then civic..

For you mom I would suggest civic, value for money its a great deal. My gf just picked hers up and its a nice ride and also a pretty smooth ride. The RSX is faster and has more features but you end up paying for it in the price.

Money is NOT an issue for E36M3 and the RSX is the better car so just do it! I give you a ride in my Type S if you give me a ride in your SL55!!! haha:thumbsup: ;)

The RSX premium for SURES. My mom has an RSX premium and she loves it. Its auto, so think that has something to do with it. I had a civic, and I will never get into that thing again...so SLOW. (See my opinion is not biased!) Sometimes you just need that extra "go" so as to not get pushed around on the road! hehehe

Its a classy looking car. Comfortable and nicer interior than a civic. It feels a lot more solidly built too!

what about the civic sir.. jaylo has had both an rsx and the sir and he says he likes the sir better.. i have also been in both cars, they have very comparable seating and gauges and stuff, i just think the rsx is a bit better performer and a bit nicer..

I'll go drive the Mini Cooper (not the S) and the Civic SIR tomorrow and see.. my mom used to have a 1999 Integra, and that was a really great car.. I am hoping the Cooper isn't as fun to drive as an RSX, but I remember really liking a Cooper S that I drove a while ago.

RSX Premium. Better styling, better engine, better interior, and a better resale value. It's got the advantage in everything except cost, but even that is somewhat negligible.

get the rsx.
you get an awesome interior, a way better value for money.

it drives awesome too; i can imagine it's no less peppy than a type-s, which i have driven, minus some horsepower and torque of course.

not the best car in the world, but u can never go wrong with a car like that.

RSX type-s, one of the best cars in its price range/class.

There is a noticeable difference between the base model and type-s...especially with the brakes.

Torque...its a HONDA, nuff' said! :D

yeah like rsexy said going from a type-s to a premium there is a HUGE difference. i wouldnt even consider the rsx unless i got the type s...

id rather have a regular mini than the rsx...

Mini is a cool "mom" car. :)
I have a few customers with Mini Cooper 'S' and they are female owners. Your mom would probably like the Mini more.

while we're on the discussion of power torque between Base RSX and type S ............torque is almost the same RSX - 141ft/lbs
RSX typeS - 142ft/lbs ...........but horsepower(not to the wheels) is a different story, theres a difference of 40hp ....type S also has a higher compression ratio tho, so generally speaking quite quick.

I thought so too, but holy crap is the Mini Cooper slow. 115hp is dangerous IMO, and the S is too much money for what you get. The car is a blast to drive, but I just can't imagine being able to merge safely without any power.

Looks like the RSX is still at the top of the list.

if this is for your mom, why are you calling the shots here?

why not get a used type s?

She hates the process of buying a car, so I am trying to narrow down the choices for her. Makes it a lot easier, that way she only has to see one or two cars.

I looked at a couple actually, but the added power doesn't really mean too much (I think the 160hp version is just about as good anyway) to my mom and it is a bit more money for the same thing.. I'm also considering any of these cars used, assuming they are in great shape.
