sp2 aparently is open to everyone... even with the hack. I think that there are some political pressures that Microsoft is enduring with all the Holes in IE 6.

That is what I was told...

I've been running SP2 for the past 2 months now, some initial issues, but cleaned up with subsuquent driver updates. HACKED KEYS WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO YOU USE WINDOWS UPDATE!!! You can install SP2 fine with a hacked CD-Key, but when logging onto windows update will deny you access. Just an FYI.

actually i was just taking a look at the feature list here http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2top.mspx and i like the idea of the internet explorer add on manager thing. its funny going to someones house and when you open ie theres about 5 different search bars. this will make it easier to get rid of them.

sp2 is very nice on security, but sucks for gaming, almost none of my fave games worked i had trouble with lots of programs running also, like NERO, nero just didn't work and funny enough i couldn't run some dvds on sp2, so weird, but i changed back to sp1 and everything is fine.

We are all testing it out at work.
7 of the guys out of 14 have had problems ranging from minor to major.
I have had good luck with it so far. Everything seems to run smoother, and I really like the pop-up blocker.
We have had reports of it causing games like City of Heroes and WWII-OL (Online Games) to stop working... I havent noticed any problems though.

Do not download it from any p2p sites in case it might be modified with viruses or something.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Official MS download site. Downloads at 700KB/sec so it's faster than any P2P can get you.

The Microsoft Download Center site is your only authorized web source for downloading a licensed copy of Windows XP Service Pack 2. To report a website offering unlicensed copies of Windows XP SP2 for download, please send e-mail to: [email protected] or visit http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/ReportingUs.mspx.

NO PIRACY DISCUSSION IS ALLOWED HERE. I don't want to hear anything about keygens, how to bypass it, or whatever. This server is hosted at our work, and we're a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, last thing I want is one of our MS reps to stumble here and read this crap.

Please follow our rules. Thanks.

Torrents are safe, as the whole protocol revolves around MD5 checksums, so there is no chance your file has been tampered with if you take a second to verify the sum of the torrent matches the legit one

Why not just download it from Microsoft...

I had several problems with it during my testing over the past two weeks. I can't say I'm a big fan of WinXP in the first place, but for users with heavy network usage, XPSP2 seems to want to stop outbound connections, not just inbound connections. It's botched at least one install I did. Lots of companies are forbidding users to install it on their work computers, like IBM (http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5302346.html) and lots more have found over half their computers don't successfully upgrade to XPSP2. The popup blocker also block legitimate windows at times which is a pain for developers  and needs some improvement.

I don't run XP at home so I'm not really worries about it, but I'm unenthusiastic about this particular service pack. I feel sorry for mom and pop XP user who have updates turned on and get stick with something they know nothing about...

personally I think it'll save me a ton of headaches in tech calls, no need to go in and install a 3rd party pop-up blocker=less adware/trojans, built in firewall...ok maybe it's not the greatest but hell better than nothing. I had lotsa issues with SP2 initially, but after the latest driver updates, the system is running pretty smooth on all 6 of my machines here.

I put it on last night. So far so good. I haven't really had a chance to play around with the firewall yet. It did allow microsoft products (MSN Messenger, Media Player, etc.) through right away though. The pop-up blocker is a nice touch....I hate those things, even when they are legit.
