Toyota RAV4 is in your target price range, even including GST.

Good on gas, easy to drive, looks good, adequate power and excellent resale value.

I have no idea why people are saying an A4...because a base model w/ taxes = 10,000 over his limit.
Also...Legacy = 41-43,000.

So...go for a small SUV such as a base Escape or Rav4...I think the X-Trail's are more expensive then your range.

used WRX -- you could find a '02-'03 with low mileage, in your price range.

Impreza is probably top of the list if you want to spend 30.

SUV in this range:

RAV4, CR-V, base Sorento, Santa Fe, Escape.

down the road:

Ford Freestyle (price not release yet but AWD based on Mazda 6)
Mazda 6

Under or around $20K

Toyota Matrix
Suzuki Aerio
