Well, the event was great as usual, very cold in the morning and some low-lying fog, but then it turned out to be an excellent day. Very Slick in alot of spots, but of the 18 cars there were only 4 vehicles that didn't finish...

Where did they end up putting you Rick? I got to the moose mountain diner, and Shawn said they'd assigned you to another marshalling team already. We were down at the south end of powderface.

Sorry about that one, I was a dumb idiot and set the ISO improperly! The rally was running later than I expected, and because they only come by once, you dont get a practice shot...he was the first car though, and I realized CRAP! I need to change my ISO...plus it was getting darker out so it was diffiult to get proper pics without having a few practice shots. I had to wing it for the entire event, guessing on camera settings to what I thought it would be...some turned out better than others...

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody had any video's or pics of the white and red datsun 510 that put a fairly major dent in the drivers rear, thanks too a tree. The crash happened just before the spectator hairpin, so im sure that somebody got something...;) and it doesnt have to be the spectator area either, just pictures or vids.

any help would be great

thanks

I saw some vids that were taken from the spectators area, but I didn't see any that involved the 510's "incident", unfortunately.

And that GTI, the odd thing is the circumstances of his accident are almost identical to an accident that totaled a Celica All-Trac last year, but at the opposite end of the same road.

You must have some CRAZY tires on that thing, i wouldnt have thought that an MR2 would be a good car for Winter Rally:dunno:
I might have to give that a try sometime

Tires.....we had more than our fair share of tire issues on this rally!

We started the rally with Blizzaks on the MR2. Stage 1 was AWESOME...the car handled great. But, near the end of stage one we got a flat...we went ahead and ran out the rest of the stage. We ended up putting on our space saver tire, due to a split in the Blizzak that made it not repairable. We ran stage 2, 3 and 4 with the space saver!

At service we put on gravel rally tires on the front & snow tires on the back. It was a toss up...traction vs. steering.....lol.
Gravels being the only other spares we had brought with us.

We ran stages 5, 6, 7 and most of 8 with our gravel tires on front. BTW, at the end of stage 5 we lost 2nd, 4th and reverse gears as well!!.

We got some air time when we hit a rock on stage 8....we landed about 20 feet off the road. When we landed the back snow tire came off the rim and all the suspension was bent.

The car was and still is able to drive, although the tires rub extremely bad and are off camber!! We again ended up going back to the space saver tire and finished out the stage.

We finished stage 9 and the LONG transit back to Camp Horizon on the space saver tire, with 1st, 3rd and 5th gears only as well!

Rally on!!! GO TOYOTA & TOYO TIRES!

lol, with rallying, anything goes (related to car models). RWD is very fun to drive but I suspect it can be frustrating too. The balance of a MR2 should make it easy to turn.. Did any of you see that white RX7? I saw it in some Canadian rally movie - "cars2001.wmv" or similar.

I would love to know more about what the competitors actually did to their cars before participating in rallies. I saw some Group N suspension for Imprezas on a retail site going for 4000 USD.. yummy.
