Well training camp has already opened and Canada lost its first exhibition game against the U.S.A 3-1. Not a big deal considering its exhibition and the top line for Canada didn't even play. Looks like the U.S.A. lost Leapold in the first game as well and right now he is listed day-to-day (hopefully its not serious for Calgary's sake).

Canada's 2nd exhibition game is tonight against the U.S.A. again and then Saturday is the final exhibition game against Slovakia. I've been searching like crazy to find out if any of the exhibition games are being televised but I can't find any info on it. If anyone knows about this please post.

My pick for the Finals is Canada vs. Sweden.

I have mixed feelings about Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Richards simply because they were on the team that robbed the cup from us. But on the other hand, I'm glad they're representing Team Canada, especially Lecavalier! Hahaha!

I missed the first exhibition game with US, but I caught the second one. And I missed the first two periods of the Slovakia, but the third was pretty fast paced and exciting.

I really think Lemieux shouldn't be playing on the first line or even playing in this tournament at all. I don't think he has what it takes anymore to get it done. Plus I don't think Lemieux should be put in the Richards/St.Louis/Lecavalier line. That line works so well together and now they break it up.

Plus another thing I don't like is having Pat Quinn as a coach. He out right sucks. He can't get his Toronto team anywhere close to the cup and Vancouver was his closes ever he will ever come to the cup (sorry I just hate quinn). Why didn't we name the Canadian coach who took the Canadian team to the Stanley Cup finals? Because by far Sutter was the better coach in the 2003/2004 season (for Canada) and that's who should be coaching.

Didn't name Sutter because can you imagine players like St Louis, Lemieux, Lecavalier, Richards, Niedermeyer, Jovo, etc. playing an up-tempo hit everything give it 200% game?

They'd hate it and they wouldnt do it. I'm not a fan of Quinn either, but you can't deny the guy knows how to handle the "stars" PLUS who was the coach that won us gold in Salt Lake again?

Don't be such a homer.

No way... Lemieux isn't the 1990s Mario but he's still the Super Mario. He's still got the hands, insane skill and vision. Just gotta hope the rest of his body is alright. It's still up in the air as to what line he should be playing on but there is no doubt as to him being on the team and as the captain.

Hey, let Quinn coach all he wants. I'd rather have Sutter focusing on the Flames even if there won't be hockey until January.

Do you even watch hockey (other than the playoffs because of Calgary)? Lemieux is still the best player in hockey.

I think eb0i should be banned from this thread.
his whole post was just.... ridiculous.

Why didn't we name the Canadian coach who took the Canadian team to the Stanley Cup finals?

Because Gretzky and Co. decided to name the coach who took Team Canada to the Gold in 2002 instead.

And as for Lemieux, sure he's not fast on skates anymore and sure he's not the strongest player on the ice but he sure as hell can stick handle, pass, and he's a genius on ice!

roopi

Maybe they should of sent all Canadian members of the Calgary Flames to play. They would have won for sure.

Tough pick! The Slovaks are stacked but have a weak D with the exception of Chara. The dude is a giant on skates!

I think Lemieux will do well in a short tournament. With one game on the line, he could still exhibit the magic that made him 'Super Mario'!

I'll try to predict the Final Four

Canada
U.S
Slovakia
Czech Republic

Sleeper pick: Finland! Go Mikka!

Oh it's going to be exciting!

I predict Sweden. They are 1 of the favorites to win.
They are a powerhouse team and they always have great teamwork.
weakness, goaltending

and then Canada vs America in 6hours!

Sweden for sure on this one. Germany isn't a very strong team IMO. Then again I heard Sweden might start Salo.

Ed Jovo is gone for the rest of the tournament
that means Hannan will take his spot.
wow... we've lost a lot of great D to injuries.

Canada has the youngest team in the tournament.

And to eb0i asking why Lemieux is on the team.... well I hope you watched the game because he was brilliant!
He even got physical... what a character!

Did they already say Hannan for sure or is that just what you think? Don't forget Bouwmeester could also take his spot. I prefer to watch him over Hannan.

On a side not Modano left the game with a lower body injury as well.

I'm assuming Hannan.
I forgot all about Bouwmeester to tell you the truth....
haha
They'll probably switch Hannan and Bouw. around

Since we're on the topic of Dmen, Regher played a pretty good game! Good thing he's signed onto Calgary for awhile, this tournament is gonna improve his play by a lot

but I think TSN said Modano is also out for the tournament.
It was 1 amazing and physical game today.

roopi
08-31-2004, 11:52 PM
Yeah it does sound like Modano is out for the tourney. Regehr played good. I though Sakic had a really good game (even though his goal was just a lucky bounce).

wow, if anyones watching Czech vs Sweden right now, its quite a game.

Sweden takes a 4-0 lead coming into the third. Somehow the Czechs regroup, now with 5 mins left in the third its a 1 goal game.

its good to see that they are able to regroup after having their coach pass away in an accident. (Also Hejduk was benched)

EDIT:well game over, Sweds held them off during the end.
the Czechs sure poured it on at the end, but too little too late.

roopi
09-01-2004, 01:39 PM
Who'd of thought the Czech's would be 0-2 already. Hopefully they can beat Germany.

Anyone see that weak goal Salo let in on Monday? Off his glove... Reminds me of the one he let in off his head in the 2002 Olympics against Canada. Thats obviously why he never played today.

lam-boy
09-01-2004, 01:43 PM
I honestly think if Salo played Czechs would have won.

but I can't wait for tonight
Canada vs Slovakia!

I predict 3-2 Canada.

Iginla, Heatly and Niedermayer with the goals for Canada
Hossa and Zednik for Slovaks.

I could see the Slovaks being the sneak attack team here in the tourny.

Mr_John
09-01-2004, 03:12 PM
Nah Slovaks wont win.
They have a pretty impressive offensive line up but.... their defence isnt too strong either is it?
I only know of Zdeno Chara on the team.... and their goaltending is questionable.

Mr_John
09-01-2004, 06:34 PM
Nice start to Canada's play

Iggy cant get anything goin'
Broduer shows why he's 1 of, if not, the best goalie in the world.
Power Play looks rough this game though.

End of 2. 3-0 For the CDN's
