Acupuncture

I have severe whiplash and the meds I'm taking are doing me more harm than good. Some people say acupuncture is good and works wonders. I'm afraid it will hurt - I mean sticking needles in places that are already sore to begin with, doesn't sound too appealing...


so anyways, any experience with this? thanks!

A lot of chiropractors offer acupuncture along with their normal services.

ive got acupuncture done before, it doest hurt so much but my problem was i was so tense when getting it done that the needles wouldnt go in because my muscles were all flexed so it took repeatetd attempts to get the needles in and that hurt.

the pin itself is a simple prick which doesnt hurt so if you can relax while they are being pricked in you it shouldnt be too bad.

She is one of the best in the city IMO (she is actually a Chinese MD but her Medical Degree does not transfer over here).

It does not hurt that much. Accupressure actually hurts much more....but they both work very well.

She will do a good job on you. :)

Actually, most people I know who have tried it also think so too.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I think that acupuncture can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine quite effectively. I don't think I would recommend acupuncture therapy in exclusion of conventional medicine.

When done properly, it has been shown to reduce the utilization of narcotic painkillers in post operative patients. I personally know of MDs who offer acupuncture for their patients.

I think its important to keep an open mind.

My mom had it done for a case of whiplash and she found it didnt help much :dunno: Phsyio and massage therapy are what took care of my whip lash...the other guy's insurance covers it if you have a perscription for both from your doctor

The idea behind acupuncture seems legit, but from personal experience, it got less and less effective the more times I went in for it. Make sure you lie still, otherwise youre in for a suprise, haha. :eek:

I think it depends alot on the person. My Doctor suggested I try it to ease the pain in my back and neck after a soccer accident. It took me a long time to go (Because the thought of it is just creepy), It made me feel a little better, But didnt take away too much pain. However, It didn't hurt at all like I had thought that It would.

I had acupuncture done a couple years back on my neck - Ironically, by a White Doctor. It didn't hurt. Felt relaxing because the needles felt like he was mesaging me from the inside. Felt great after. i suggest you try it.

Why not try to see a pain specialist?

I once had very painful chronic shoulder/neck pains from sporting injury. I tried physiotherapy then moved to massages even was crazy enough to try a chiropractor! Nothing worked for a couple years. Went back to the MD and he refered me to an anesthesiologist who also had acupucture backround. I was fixed in about one month, it was amazing.

He did a combo of using acupuncture points to inject anesthetic. The only painful part was the intramuscular injects that totalled to about 14 around my shoulder blade and neck PER session. Most painful thing ever, felt like my muscle was being shredded apart. Oh, and if you are scared of needles, that might suck too

I know people with sore backs who have had it done and they swear by it - many of my clients have had it done too and they seem to have found some benefit from it. I mean if you already know that the meds you're taking now are not making you feel the best, what harm is there in trying it? If you don't like it you can always stop doing the acupuncture treatments :dunno:

Get chiropractic done, i have one and he s working wonders on my neck trauma.... My mom got acupuncture done... i ferget exactly what i think it was back pain and she claimed it helped alot. I'd say try it and chiropractic.
