What do the engine codes mean? I've heard conflicting information and was wondering if anyone knew. For example, I think mine (88 Prelude Si) is a B20A2. I know 20 is the displacement 2.0, but what are the letters? thanks.

BMW 320 == 2.2L (not 2.0L)
BMW 540 == 4.4L (not 4.0L)
MB C230 == 1.8L (not 2.3L)
MB C240 == 2.6L (not 2.4L)
MB S600 == 5.5L (not 6.0L)

Damn marketing departments! :D

There's a way to figure out the engine code from the VIN too. Though I'm not clear on how, just read it in a Chilton manual, for Honda anyways. I'm sure its the same for most cars.
