I would have posted the questions in my original message, but I also want to know how many E46 owners are on the board and who they are.

Questions:

#1 - Do any of you run the 17" rims in the winter with winter tires? How do you find them?
#2 - What weight of oil are you guys running in the winter and what weight in the summer?
#3 - I change oil every 5000 km, but some guys are telling me that BMW recommends every 10,000 km....Opinions on this?
#4 - I don't have the owners manual, but how do I set the clock on the headunit and the clock in the gauge cluster? Its displaying --:--AM and driving me crazy.
#5 - I have the BMW alarm. I have heard that an audible notice can be turned on for when you lock the doors. How is this done?
#6 - This is a long shot, but any chance anyone has an owner's manual for my car kicking around?

The car is a 2000 328CI

Thanks - Ryan

I ran 17" winter wheels on my 330Ci. On the 330 17" is the smallest size of wheel available that will clear the brakes. On the 328 you can use 16's.

I did .. and I still drive a E46 .. Forth one ! :D

# 1. My winter tires-- yes 17" Artic Pilot / Brizzard ( ? spell right ? )

# 2. 5W-30 oil all year round, no need to change for every 20,000 km, summer or winter ! ( beside M3 )

# 3. Doing oil change every 5,000 km is fine, nothing wrong, but just waste your time and money, the car will tell you when do u need to do oil change, and Free for the first 3 yrs anyway ! ( I never pay oil change ! )

#4. Adjust the clock -- turn that little nob on your dash board. (next to your speedometer )

#5. BMW Alarm, when your lock your car, "double" click the lock button, that will disable the "motion sensor".

#6. you can order the owner manual from BMW dealership, not that expensive !

Anyway, Congraduation ! welcome to the BMW family ! now you are driving one of the best cars in the world ! ( in fact, best small luxury sports car ! )

Great info.

The only question remaining is how do I turn on or off the AUDIBLE notice when you lock the vehicle?

Not sure if this will work but for the E36 BMW alarm, you hold both buttons down to toggle the audible chirps.

There are many programmable user options... and I believe the chirps are one of them. Only a dealership can program these.

maybe your car doesn't have an alarm (no motion sensors etc)....just has the engine kill..those don't make any audible sound....but your clown nose will still blink..

I know for subarus , you have to open the drivers door only and hold down both bottons for 6 seconds or so and it will change the alarm sensor , its worth a try.

#3 - I change oil every 5000 km, but some guys are telling me that BMW recommends every 10,000 km....Opinions on this

I had a 98 328i, the dealer recommends 10k or around there for oil as it's synthetic.

#3 --- the new BMW (maybe the old ones as well) use synthetic oil and the computer usu. tells you when you have to get the car serviced (usu. ~24000 for Inspection 1). However, BMW GAllery recommends an oil change every 12000km or 8 months. I think this may be just a way for them to make some extra $$. But if you want to be extra careful then change the oil every 12000km, if you use synthetic oil.

BMW recommend oil change ~ 20K or 18 month, however, those are for "normal" climate area, I don't think that include our lovely CALGARY area .. that is why, for COLD weather/Extrem weather area, more oil change is recommend, even on some other car, oil change every 5000 km in Calgary/Canada, but 8,000 km in US or other place .. depends on how to drive.

For me, I just follow what BMW said, there is no hurt to do more oil change, on my E46, after near 2 yrs, I only got 10,000km on it, so I still get my "FREE" oil change ! ^_^ Friend of mine does oil change on his 330 every 3 months .... so .. he just pay his own oil change ! and he doesn't care !

take it to the dealership !
you may NOT have the alarm ! since even without alarm, the light will blink, but no sound.
So, only way to find out, is take to the dealership ! ^_^ I love servicing on all high-end car dealership anyway ! :D
