My 6'4" 280lbs. step Dad wants one of these. And I thought he looked funny in a Geo Metro...

I agree that they look pretty funny, but if I only had short trips to work (like my wifes 3km round trip daily) I would drive one. But it certainly wouldn't be the only car in the garage!

I think its a good city driver, even if you in downtown or only travels within 10 km radius to do whatever.

Like Spyderman_MaryJ said, I would get one as a city driver, but it definitly wont be the only car in the garage

Small yes, ugly - depends on your taste, but it IS designed to be safe, even in an accident.

Its also RWD - I wonder if you can drift in these things?

The Smart roadster will probably sold as a Dodge as shown in one of the auto show earlier in the year.

Smart is cool but for sure unsafe for highway, 0-60 in that thing is about 15s. You won't be able to effectively merge safely.

It's purely for street/city use only. Good gas mileage, kinda cute environmental friendly way. So far MB only show test with a car. I would love to see how this thing hold up against a truck. I got a suspiction that smart is do poorly againt truck bumper height. Last thing I need a bumper driving right thru my windshield.

And I think that's why Smart is not going to U.S.

one more! the guy was some mercedes exec type who said they start selling them in a month for $16K-$20K. I guess they are okay for tree-hugger types that don't like cars, acceleration, or highways. or probably hip-hop. it won't be on any G-unit videos.

Don't worry guys, the first year run of 1000 has all been sold. If you didn't put money down already, you won't have one for a while.

It turn heads, and if we don't have bumper car winters, I'll drop some cash on this in a heart beat.

Really? My 1991 VW Golf Diesel has a zero to sixty time of 21 seconds and merging safely has never been a problem. People who refuse to yield to the merging trafic are the real threat.

It's purely for street/city use only.

Thats strange because the smart has been cruising the autobahn since 1998.

Good gas mileage, kinda cute environmental friendly way.

Good gas mileage is an understatement. This thing gets over 80 MPG, thats fantastic mileage! I wish it had a bigger fuel tank though... 22 Liters (4.8 Imperial Gallons, 5.8 U.S. gallons) is about 23 liters too little.

So far MB only show test with a car.

A car that weighs almost three times as much!

I would love to see how this thing hold up against a truck.

Well... considering that the bottom of the smart's windshield starts about three feet above the ground that would be one BIG truck... perhaps an 18 wheeler? My Firebitd is more likely to have a truck's bumper come through the windshield.

And I think that's why Smart is not going to U.S. [/B]
[/QUOTE]

I dunno... I think they are scared to death that it might sell like hotcakes and they wouldn't be able to build 'em fast enough! But seriously... the U.S. is Sport Utility central... small hatchbacks only seem to sell well there when there is a fuel shortage, or a threat of a fuel shortage. One day people will wake up and smell the roses and then you won't be able to give away those huge fuel gulping SUVs.

I think that the Brabus version that they have in Europe would be a blast to drive.

The smarts will be here in 2 weeks. Prices start at 16K,. fully loaded convertible will be 22K. They cost about $11 to fill and get 600km to the tank

canada's crash test standards are way stricter than the states...why do you think we don't get the lancer evo? if this car wasn't equally as safe as any other car to drive it wouldn't have passed, period.

drove 1 today, 3 cyl tdi with manu-matic slap shifter.

just as slow as 2cv I have in shop. it feels solid. looks cartoonish. a friend who tried 1 on deerfoot got it up to 130 kph.

makes total sense for commuting.

LOL,... I saw those in europe last year,.. they were real "neat"

I kinda like them,.. for a daily commuting!

When I come back to Canuckville, I'd seriously consider picking one up. Everyone can laugh at me till I go to the pump, then I'll just giggle all the way to the cash register.

Over here in Japan, those (and similar cars) are getting to be quite popular. I've asked a few of the folks I work with who drive them about why, I expected them to say "becuase it's small" but 90% of them said because it's good on gas and doesn't cost $70 to fill it every two weeks.

So basically, to those of you who say "WHAT A POS! I CAN WANK FASTER THAN THOSE!", just remember insulting the car next time you fill your car. $11 ever month or $40 every week?

"Well I don't mind spending the money.. at least my car looks nicer..." Y'know... you're right. Enjoy spending YOUR money, at least it's not mine! :bigpimp:

get in one, you'd probably be suprised... they are quite tall, which makes up for the short legnth when it comes to space inthe car.

My room mate wants one. He works downtown and spends most of his time in the city. If he needs something bigger,he'll rent something. Not my cup of tea , but it's an interesting vehicle, reasonable priced, and the cost of gas is not going to get cheaper...

Saw one out here in Vic on the weekend. Thought it looked like an upholstered go-cart. Also came across a car review of them and I was surprized, turns out to be safer than most cars on the road..
Don't think I'll be standing in line to get one though... I like the general idea of it but it looks like CRAP!
Just wondering though..... why is it that everytime some car company comes out with a super fuel efficiant car they make it look like a POS. almost everyone of the hybrids out there look like the body was designed by George Jetson or Erkle, absolutly no style.:banghead:
