I am looking into buying a Protege 5 and someone told me that some of the protege 5's have ford engines in them. Is this true??

dude, no... ur friend doesn't know what he's talking about.
All protege's have japanesse built engines in them. I know the 02' models have a 1.8l and 1.6l engine available to them. I don't know much about those, but I know if you are buying the P5, you won't have to worry about it. The P5's all come with the 2.0l FS-DE engine. The 2.0l shares the same block as the 1.8l, it's just that the displacement has been increased on it. Protege's a good reliable and fun car to drive. Just don't expect to much performance from the engine, it's relatively weak compared to some of todays more modern engines. It's an engine design that's been in use for about 14 years now. It's a good reliable engine, not so great on gas tho.
