Well just out of sheer boredom from reading a few posts, someone said something about a JDM CRX being worth such and such money, and someone else posted about yahoo.co.jp auctions - so I did some reading, converting, and more reading and found out some funny stuff..

Firstly, I'm in Australia >_< a 180sx here is 10-20 grand, a silvia is 7-15, 1989-1993 for both, so I wanted to see what the prices in Japan were like ..

180sx's range from 100,000 Yen to 1,000,000 (1-11 CAD)
Silvia's range from 3000 Yen to 250,000 (Silvia S13 K) (35-yea..dollars..35 dollars.. to 3000 $ - CAD)

Now, some tuned, some not - all with around 120-000 KM or less (many less..) only a few are slightly damaged, if at all.

So there we go, half price at least.. Now for the fun part. . . After checking out quite a few Japan to Australia shipment companies, I came across a place that stood out for being sort've expensive.. Costs 1 grand CAD to go find the car, do a test drive, de-register it, go through customs, write a review, take 30 pics, get a mechanic to look at it and make sure it's ok, and then stick it on a boat. Then it costs 500 CAD to ship the car here, given the size and weight ( a bit more given that its calculated by Metre Squared. an MX-5 is 500, an Imprezza is 650..)

So all together, find the car at a good price, I could get a JDM 180sx for 3k >_<

Now for sexiness !

Every year it becomes more expensive to insure/registure a car that at some point it is just cheaper to go and buy a new one. Keeps their auto industry afloat. This means older cars can be had for dirt cheap because no one wants to insure/registure them.

Those are auction prices, check the reserves and then wait for the auction to finish before you get your prices. They might start off at $35, but they won't finish for that much.

Shipping isn't $500 CAD, its closer to $500 USD.

You didn't mention importing expenses, it's pretty easy to get your costs to go up if you don't know what you're doing when the car gets in Canada.

He's in australia.

Anyhoo, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. I've considered bringing in a car or two as well. But I'm too worried about expenses that come up along the way.

Look at importconcern.ca's broker stock. You can get a Skyline shipped to Canada for around $15,000 for a Type-M or around $22,000 for a GT-R. You can get an RX-7 for less then $5,000. You can get a 180SX for less then $8,000 (for a really nice one) ... but you can't get a AE86 for anything less then $20,000 :)

So now I just have to wait for a Friday or Saturday night, steal my sisters digital camera, go down to some of the "cool people with their tuned cars" hang outs, or to the big chinese restaurant district near me - and take some snaps of some hot cars :D >_<

Personally the red 180sx is one of the nicest, with the spoiler.. mmmm sexy
