i've been seeing it here and there on the boards lately, i saw the car really early on in issue of SCC, but i thought it was more of a tuner kit or special prjoect car, does anyone know if it will actually be produced as a standard model or even a special edition?

I remember reading somewhere about it. I think it is, but not until 2004...can't remember anymore. I hope the IS430 makes production!

it looks just like the IS300, except it has a "beefed up" GS430 motor in it.
Its supposed to compete with the M3.

they should have just thrown the 2JZ-GTE in? i mean the engine in it is already just the NA version, but i guess for a nice smooth powerband and shitloads of cruising torque 430 is alot more refined

ya I saw a glimpse of it on a megazine as well... small pic but it looks like the IS300 with beefed up kit too, wide fenders?? still if the price is around the same, it'll be a wrx/sti killer.. I hope not.. lol

if its any good indication they are calling it IS430 that means its a new car.. so good chance it will hit production where as if its based on IS300 platform or they call it IS300 P1 or something then it might be a racing package and similar those to mercedes's AMG tunning division.

The European Toyota division did it up, TTE. The one I read about was the 4.3 Lexus V8 supercharged. Too crazy!!!!:burnout:

lol, I don't think any V8 car would be a competitor to the rally-eque Evos and Imprezas. V8's are far more refined - and larger+heavier.

Just to whine a little, that car has the V8 up front right? Groar, big and heavy. If it's going to have a V8 or more mad, and me choosing it, it has to be mid/rear mounted. :poosie:

the IS430 is not a rally car. how can you even compare the two?

I don't think Lexus is trying to win any WRC races.

yeah...that could be a real BMW killer, 3-series size and weight, 5 series power

lol, I didn't think of it as a rally car ever. SilverRex wrote : "still if the price is around the same, it'll be a wrx/sti killer.. I hope not.. lol" - and that is what I replied to.

Even at 300hp, it would still lag behind the current M3. When the new M3 is released with the V8, it will be at least 400hp, possibly more. It may be a good competitor to the 330i (next gen) which should have close to 300hp, but I think it might lose a lot of its dynamic agility with the additional weight.

who said anything about it being 300hp?

It was an educated guess based on the current output of the Lexus 4.3 V8. With no production numbers, it is safe to assume it will be in that ballpark. The chances of Lexus releasing a supercharged production car are very slim given their brand profile, so I would assume 300-340hp based on their current engine.

hehe, i think he was refering to when you said

where did you find this info???

Oh. I don't know the exact source.. I suppose I could think about that one, but BMW usually positions its models in such a way that there is a good amount of space between its product offerings.

ie. E36 328 = 190 HP, E36 M3 = 240hp
E46 330 = 225 hp, E46 M3 = 333hp

I would imagine that they would increase the power output of the 330i (or its successor) to get closer to the new M3s output. Maybe they will use the 3.2L from the M3 in the new 330i. I'd have to do some research to find out where I have heard this elsewhere.

I have always like the IS300 but as most would agree, that car is quite underpowered. It would definately be nice to see more power for the car

I test drove a 2001 auto IS300 and this car is no BMW killer. Performance wise, it had absolutely no chance against the 330 BMW. Its about time they beef up the power....the so called 215hp was overrated imo

I drove a 2002 Auto, and I thought it was a fantastic car. I didn't really feel that it was underpowered, but I agree that it obviously doesn't compete with the 330 in any real way. I would say that it makes a good competitor for the 325, although I still prefer the 325.
