hey all...just posting to say hi and ask a quick question...

i was checking around on ebay for a toyota supercharger and the prices seem to be anywhere from 90-150 bucks...but elsewhere ive heard that a used sc should cost around 500..

am i missing something here? are these just parts FOR an SC?

thanks

so what i understand is that ur looking for an mr2 blower...yes on ebay there cheap because they were mass produced and there quite common....i also guess people are saying 500 for an aftermarket v8 supercharger..ive never seen a OEM supercharger go for more that 300..

alright thanks a lot m8.

oh also i meant to ask...how hard is it to install them? i dont have any experience with any car mods but i'd like to learn as long as there's not much risk of fucking up my car....

and if there is how much would it cost to get it installed?

They're also roots type blowers, which aren't all that efficient in comparison to any other types of superchargers. On the other hand, you've discovered the advantage this brings...cheap! One other thing you should be aware of though, is that for the Toyota SC12, you can't get new bearings for them if they're shot (as far as I know..been a while since I was looking at GZE stuff) you either get ones custom made, or machine the housing for oversized bearings. If anyone knows otherwise, please post!

Link us to these auctions - they will be easy to identify if we can see what you're talking about. I sure as hell hope you aren't talking about those little mini fans that they are selling.

All of those are crap. Electric superchargers are garbage. Seriously.

electric compared to....being spun by the engine?

hahahaha, you'll gain like 10hp, if that, from those pieces of crap. NOT WORTH THE MONEY! They arn't real superchargers. Don't buy anything off ebay that says "electric" or "supercharger" in the same page.

Go buy an intake for your car, you will probably make the same power.

Turbocharger - driven by exhaust.
Supercharger- driven by the engine
Complete pile of shit - driven by electricity.

There's no way a little rinky dink fan like that could produce enough "boost" to add anything useful.

If anything they will cause more restriction than anything, and you will lose HP.

The SC12 supercharger you see is quite common and found mainly from the USDM 4A-GZE engines in MR2s.

The SC12 is a roots type supercharger which is driven off the motor's crankpulley.

The efficiency of the SC12 is debatable but from personal experience being a regular dyno and autocross junky myself, the SC12 is inefficient and does not yeild a high enough power range.

The SC12 is prone to heatsoaking and I do not like the fact that it is clutch activated after 3000rpm. Not only that, a bloody crank pulley upgrade costs a fortune.

Get a turbo. You'll thank me. :)
