their actaully 4wd electrics that use Pvc piping for tires, drifting with a Nitro using only RWD it hella hard man

DXR told me you could even drift just by putting electrical tape over the rear tires. But then it get's pretty damn hard to control.

i've tried it before, but it doesn't last that long cause the tape gets eaten up... the PVC/ABS pipe is a way better idea...

The electrical tape on mine has stayed on very well. I used packing tape before that, and it got eaten really fast

Get a nitro car, much faster and more fun! Electric cars can't compare to the experience... the nitros have real engines and whatnot, they are so much fun!:burnout:

the R/C drift bug has bit me...

I bought some spare wheels today, found some 2" ABS pipe at work, cut them out and glued them on to the wheels...

Also pulled out the HKS Track Attack Altezza body that was being saved in the basement to complete the look...

I'll keep you guys posted if I get any good at it... :nut:

This is crazy fun with the ABS/PVC. I find that carpet is too slick, smooth concrete is too slick, but nice pavement works the best. What are you running for front tires? I haven't tried foams yet, so I only know rubbers.

DXR I'd be interested in some R/C drift action but I'll have to make my 4WD a RWD first :D...

Also depending on what car you have, you can make them drift properly using regular R/C tires, it's all in the suspension tuning...

All 4 wheels are on ABS, I tried running normal tires on the fronts, but it just spins out...

Nah, leave it 4WD, mine is, and I'm getting the hang of it, I can get it goin about 45 degrees through a corner now...

And ABS wheels seemed like a better solution to me, I have no idea how to mess with that suspension stuff yet :nut: :dunno:

What kind of car are you running that you can tune your suspension and drift?

Haha funny enough, I've never thought of running all 4 on piping.
Using only the rears is pretty tough, so I'll give it a try. I get the feeling it's going to get alot easier with 4 ABS....

Glad to see some other RC drivers here!

ZorroAMG
09-22-2004, 04:11 PM
I have never attempted drifting because I only competed in AWD touring class, but I have a TC3 Factory team and have seen many tutorials about setting up a car for t3h drift...I'll see what I can find :)

BTW the tuning is all in spring rate, shock oil weight and battery placement IIRC, which some of the RTR tamiya cars etc may not have the option to play with

CivicDXR
09-22-2004, 05:32 PM
I've got an RTR tamiya, so I guess I can't mess with the suspension... but yah, its so much easier to control and get a drift going with all 4 ABS, than it is with just the rears ABS...

It makes a bit of sense now, especially about battery placement. I have a 6 cell AA 7.2v setup, so that's alot of weight. As it is now, I'm around 50/50 so I don't know if I want to move it.

More weight in the rear makes the most sense, but then again the tried and true 86 is 50/50..... :D

Anyway definitely post it up if you find something.

All of my stuff was bought at PM too.

Seanith
09-22-2004, 11:19 PM
so how much would everything you need be if you went to pm hobbies?

ZorroAMG
09-22-2004, 11:46 PM
See the Corolla is true 5050 but think of a normal electric touring car, front to rear without electronics and batt is close to 50/50 but the motor, spur, pinion are all in the rear, the battery on the other side and lighter electroincs (compared to the motor) are in front ...makes for rather wonky weight dist...especially if you take into account different speedcontrol and receiver and servo manufacturers make products that weight differently....

DXR, I'll check out your car and see what we can do :)

ZorroAMG
09-22-2004, 11:47 PM
seanith: you can get started for about 800 and pay up to 3000 for the pro stuff...I spent 6k in one year for top stuff (competitive racing though)

For what car? I have the full Carbon fibre chassis for my Associated TC3.

ninjak84
09-24-2004, 02:39 PM
Micro RS4 over here :)
1/18 scale.

I can't wait to see what the difference will be (aside from coolness factor).
I don't think it'll be very much lighter (if any), but I'd like to think it'll dissipate heat faster.

What are the pros/cons that you've noticed on yours?

ZorroAMG
09-24-2004, 03:56 PM
Well, the micros are small and their actual speed won't really benefit from the CF AFAIK. My TC3 with my 11 turn mod motor will do 45-50 Km/h real speed and the stiffness helps a fair bit. As far as weight reduction, the TC3 comes already with a Carbon-reinforced plastic chassis that is quite light anyhow. Coolness factor will be the main thing on yours since micro cars aren't high-performance touring cars. (Not to knock yours AT ALL, just in terms of competitive racing benefitting from those type of mods)

I am going to post pics soon...you All should too :)

i broke my tmaxx today, a shock tower, engine mount, EZ start electric starter motor, the hood pin shafts that pop through the body, and i just spend almost $40 on my el camino body, painted it, looked REALLY nice, but then i decided to go out and jump on the road with it......doesnt look too nice anymore :P

Ouch! That's rough.... Last night I blew out a pin in my drivers' side front wheel suspension :(
The entire spring assembly came apart while the car was doing about 20km/h!
Must have been an unlucky night

Fortunately I have the spare parts to fix it.
I'll post up some pictures when it's back to normal.

MenteL
09-25-2004, 08:54 PM
Heh. Today cost me over $150, plus yesterday is a grand total of $210 dollars.

Engine Mount - $20
Shock Towers - $20
Spur Gear - $5
Rims - $30
One Way bearing - $25
EZ Start Electric Motor - $25
Crystals - Free (from friend)
Gas Tank was cracked - $30
Body - $40

Plus the mods that i added cost me the difference, new 14 tooth clutch bell lets me do some wicked wheelies, and my sand paper disc brake pads make me stop on up two wheels :D I'm such a loser heheh

Here's what the car looks like now. HPI RS4 platform, 1/18th scale electric.
Lot's of hop-ups, including a motor swap, new diff, upgraded batteries, carbon fiber chassis plate on it's way.... etc
The "drift" setup is currently an M3 with different wheels. I'm hoping to pick up an S15 body once I get back in Calgary. Anyone seen a 140-150mm Silvia body in stock at PM?

Good to see one that isn't panda. If you ever want a set of drift tires for it, I found some that are killer!
