Okay so i sold my car and am stuck on deciding what to buy next. I have it narrowed down to 2 vehicles:

OPTION 1

2001 Land Rover Discovery SD
85,000 KM's
Black
Leather Interior no sunroof.
Drives like a truck, is a pig on gas, and no warranty left
Can buy a 60,000 KM warranty for an additional $1500

$24,900 + GST + Extended Warranty

OPTION 2

2002 Land Rover Freelander
30,000 KM's
Gold
Full Load, leather sunroof, power everything
Looks kinda gurly (like a crv) is good on gas
Still has 50,000KM remaining on factory warranty

$27,900 + GST

I have done a lot of research on the Discovery and like what i've read, I don't really know much about the freelander, i think they came out in 2002 which might not be a good thing since the one i'm looking at is a first year production vehicle and LR might not have had all the bugs worked out.

i would say neither but out of those two id definately go with the discovery since the freelander is still a cute ute (best one out there but stil)

Between the two, I would go for the Discovery.

Reason being because I was looking to purchase a Freelander before I picked up my car and came across the Freelander forum for it's owners.

Judging by the comments the owners had on their cars, they were not happy with them at all...build wise, reliability, cheap materials etc.

Do you even know what you are talking about? Freelanders were first produced in 1998, eons before Ford took over (2000). In fact, the Freelander and RR had more BMW in it than anything else.

And how could it be based on an Escape? I think the Escape came out in 2001, IIRC.

Please get your facts straight before spewing bullshit.

Paul, does the Disco have the CDL? It's the extra lever above the transmission shifter. If it doesn't, I'd think twice about it.

it has 2 gear shifters if that answers your question. Ones for 4x4 purposes.

I think you're right with the fact about BMW over ford since ford didn't buy them until 01 or 02.

From what i understand the freelander more closely resembles the BMW X3 rather than the ford escape? correct me if i'm wrong on this, but bmw purchased Land Rover to use their technology to build the platforms for the X5 and the X3.

I'm actually leaning towards the freelander, better on gas (and we all know where prices at the pump are heading) plus i don't really go 4x4ing ever and just wanted a vehicle that doesn't act like a snow plow in the winter (like my Type R did).

For all those who said Discovery why? Another option i have is to wait and see if any Discovery SE or SE7's come to the used market (those 2 have the options i'm looking for) so that is a total possibility.

Thanks for the comments guys.
