What are some of the visual identifiable differences between these two engines...besides the red valve cover?

If pics can be posted for clarification, that would be best.

Thanks all.

The B18C1 has, get this, "B18C1" stamped onto the front of the block.

AND. . . .

The B18C5 has "B18C5" stamped onto the front of the block.

lol. Sorry X, just felt like being a jackass.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that if it just says "B18C" then it's JDM. I think.

I think you mean B18c1 and B18C5 those are US classifications for the "GSR" and " Type R" motors, in Japan they both share the same code B18C but the way you can tell the two apart are the Intake manifolds, the coolant exits and possibly the valve cover if it hasnt been changed

I knew that. Actually tried to look for the block code, expecting it to be in the usual place, but there was no code in sight:eek: First sign of concern. Hence this thread

What is the visual distinguisher between the two intake manifolds? Unfortunately, the valve cover looks to be a regular GSR one, so that threw me off about the motor too.

one intake manifold is curled almost looks upside down, one looks similar to a b16 intake manifold but bigger
