i hope somebody can help
i have a bmw 325i 91'(e36 m40) and the tickover is very erratic
it fluctuates between 500 rpm to 1500 rpm
it tries to stall but the em stops it
it sometimes happens when i nearly stall the engine, is there something that i am missing or do you think that it is a serious problem.

thanks in advance

andy

It could be timing, when was the timing belt last changed?

Could be inproper gapping of the spark plugs, or it could even be faulty grouding to the chasis.

It could be a variety of things... first check your CEL light, and if it is illuminated go get your manual for your car and find out what possible engine codes it could be flashing.

heres a few things u could look at: o2 sensor, vacuum leak, iacv clogged or busted.

Is your "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" on?
if it is, its most likely your O2 sensor.

its common.
I think your 1991 325i is an E30 and not an E36.

Yea.. if its a '91 It would only be an E36 if its from Europe (where I believe they changed model years a year earlier than here)

also.. ahem ... the M40 engine is the Four Cylinder 16 valve... So... uhm... yea... I don't think you have a 325 '91 E36 M40 because thats pretty much the same has having a E300 '53 W124 V12 ... (nonsense)...

ok, i'm tired.

if its an E30 with the M20B25 or M20B27ETA motor, any ticking sounds you hear are most likely a worn cam / lifters - if your idle is very very rough and weird you have a leaky intake.
