cheapest new car is a Kia Rio. That's a fact, not great, but it's the cheapest new car in canada.

Unless something changed that I don't know about.

I seem to recall that Hyundai had a great warranty with their new cars. I would consider the Accent if I was in that market.

If you go Korean, Daewoo or Hyundai would be the way to go (Daewoo's cars are also available as Chevy's - like the Aveo and Optra-don't know if you can buy them as Daewoos in Canada?). Kia's are a bad choice for every reason except price. :dunno:

Cavalier / Sunfire is a cheap domestic but on the other hand its a cheaply built domestic on a platform that is over 10 years old... :thumbsdow

From Japan, a base Civic or 3 is the way I would go. Euro I'd go with a Golf and for domestic, my choice would be SX 2.0 or the Focus.

Cheapest car(s) in Canada (starting price):

Korean
Kia Rio: $12650
Hyundai Accent: $13300

Domestic
Chevy Aveo/Pontiac Wave: $13600 (Korean - Daewoo)
Chevy Epica: $15500 (Korean - Daewoo)
2 dr Sunfire/Cavalier: $16500
4 dr Sunfire/Cavalier: $11900 (discontinued, just whatever left in dealer lots)
Saturn Ion: $14900
Ford Focus ZX4: $17700
Dodge SX2.0 (Neon): $15500

Japanese
Honda Civic: $16200
Mazda 3: $16300
Toyota Echo: $12995
Toyota Corolla: $15500
Nissan Sentra 1.8: $15600

European
Smart forTwo: $16500
Smart forTwo Convertible: $19500
VW Golf CL: $18300

Side notes:
The real surprise here is the crappy ZX4 has the highest starting price of the group. The irony is, Ford won't switch to Mazda 3's platform because it's too expensive. Yet Mazda 3 undercut Focus's price. That's why unions are highly uncompetitive.

Also Hyundai and Kia gives out comprehensive 5 year warranty and usually equipped better than their base counterparts.

The 1000 2005 Smart car alloted for Canada has been pre-sold, you'll probably need to be on a waiting list or buy used.

My Picks
On a budget: Hyundai Accent
Have some extra $: Honda Civic
Go for head turners: forTwo or Mazda 3

I think the current platform is about 22 years old.

They are the cheapest new car, one in the paper with 0Km's for 9998$ thats cheap!

Of course it will be worth half that in 2 years.

I thought they revised the platform in the early 90's? I know that the Jbody has been around since the 80's (remember the Cimarron?  Cadillac is praying that you don't  )

I've only seen one in my life and I was scared. I wonder what the project manager of that car was smoking:nut: .

I always thought they were on the same body since the pontiac j2000 and chevy cavaliers of 1982.

Isn't there a new sub compact hatch by pontiac? Y'know the orange one in the commercial that ducks in the alley to avoid the cops (?!??!)

Pontiac Wave. Sister car to Aveo. I have it on my list above.

Same shit, different pile.

A new cavalier/sunfire for 10G is a really good deal for people on a budget! sure it'll be worth 5 G in 2 years but you are only paying 10 G to start with. You get a decent size car for the class, 140hp engine. Definately go and look at one. Like someone said above, you can find one dirt cheap in the papers these days!
