Any one here know anything about '79 Spitfires? What are they like, maintainence and Performance wise?

While I haven't owned one, I know that maintenance can be quite high on older (or newer, for that matter) British cars. Especially with regards to the electical system. Fortunately, they are pretty simple vehicles, so if you have any mechanical ability you should be able to do the majority of it yourself. As far as performance goes, it will likely be okay (fun in the corners, but underpowered), so don't try drag racing or you will embarrass yourself.

Take a look for some specific british car sites.

I wouldn't reccomend it for a first car or for a daily driver, they require frequent maintenence.
